Every SUV is getting the rugged treatment these days. The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is the latest model to beef up its off-roading capabilities. But let’s see what the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Trail Edition can do.

What comes with the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Trail Edition?

The 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Trail Edition starts with standard AWD, like the rest of the models in the lineup. Also, it doesn’t have any performance upgrades.

But it’s no slouch. The Active Wheel Control (AWC) AWD system improves handling, traction, and stability in various driving conditions and weather. The system calls for low-viscosity transfer case oil to reduce friction and improve fuel economy.

It also features hill start assist and active stability control with a multi-link rear suspension. Each corner features independent gas-charged shock absorbers and coil springs.

The Trail Edition offers more peace of mind on the trails by wearing protective black cladding around the wheel wells and bumpers. It features mud flaps, black door handles, trail graphics around the rear, and a black hood decal.

It doesn’t have a suspension lift or include all-terrain tires. The Outlander Sport has a ground clearance of 8.4 inches, which is a solid start.

In the cab, you’ll find protective all-weather mats. You can opt for available accessories such as a Mitsubishi roof rack and bike rack to haul more equipment into the wild.

While the standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 148 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque is a little underwhelming, but you can upgrade to the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 168 hp and 167 lb-ft of torque.

When properly equipped, the Outlander Sport can tow up to 2,000 lbs. That’s enough muscle for a small trailer or tiny camper.

New standard safety features for 2024 include forward collision mitigation, lane departure warning, and automatic high beams.

The Trail Edition can be added to the ES trim, which starts at $25,695. The Trail Edition takes the price up to $29,790, so we can estimate that it costs $4,095.

It’s primarily an appearance package, so it doesn’t exactly enhance its capabilities. But it does offer superior protection and a rugged look.
