The 2024 Mazda CX-90 comes standard with an e-Skyactiv G 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 with M-Hybrid boost (a 48-volt mild hybrid system). The CX-90 Turbo Select base model makes 280 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. It gets 24 miles per gallon in the city and 28 miles per gallon on the highway. It starts at $39,595.

The CX-90 is significantly more powerful than the Mazda CX-9. This base engine is also standard on the CX-90 3.3 Turbo Preferred, CX-90 3.3 Turbo Preferred Plus, and CX-90 3.3 Turbo Premium Plus trims. According to Road Show by CNET, the 2024 Mazda CX-90 PHEV uses a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, an electric motor, and a 17.8 kWh battery to make 323 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The more powerful PHEV starts at $47,445.

Mazda has yet to release the CX-90 PHEV’s fuel economy numbers. It’s expected to get around 30 miles of electric-only driving range. The Mazda CX-90 PHEV is a definite step up from lower trims in terms of power, but surprisingly it isn’t the mightiest powertrain option for the midsize three-row SUV.

So, Mazda has a powertrain for the average driver and one for drivers looking for more power and driving range. What about the CX-90 consumers that solely want a performance-oriented SUV? Mazda’s third powertrain option is designed specifically for thrill seekers. The models equipped with the final powertrain option are the most powerful Mazda in the automaker’s lineup.

So, there’s the standard V6, then there’s the V6 that comes standard on the final three CX-90 trim levels. The last powertrain option is the e Skyactiv G 3.3-liter Inline 6 Turbo engine. This engine makes a massive 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque with premium fuel. Getting this performance out of the CX-90 will cost a pretty penny at the gas tank, but it’s worth every cent for thrill seekers.

The e Skyactiv G 3.3-liter Inline 6 Turbo engine is standard on the CX-90 3.3 Turbo S, CX-90 3.3 Turbo S Premium, and the CX-90 3.3 Turbo S Premium Plus. The Turbo S trim starts at $51,750. The fully loaded Turbo S Premium Plus has a starting price of $59,950.

The 2024 Mazda CX-90 has great powertrain options, especially when it’s compared to the Mazda CX-9. The CX-90 brings unique style and performance to the table, making it a great Kia Telluride rival. Will the Mazda CX-90 dethrone the Kia Telluride in ranking lists?
