Jeep is one of the best-known automakers, and it specializes in off-road SUVs. One of those models is the 2024 Jeep Compass. It doesn’t boast a redesign, but this compact crossover sports a few changes for the latest model year. Here’s a look at the Compass and if those updates are enough to catch car shoppers’ attention.

What’s new with the 2024 Jeep Compass?

Jeep’s parent company, Stellantis, recently revealed details about the 2024 Compass. The compact SUV received only a couple of minor upgrades. The most notable involves the SUV’s grille inserts. The previous model had mesh-shaped grille inserts, but the 2024 version has smoother ones.

Stellantis also noted the 2024 Compass will offer a new wheel design option, but that won’t arrive until later, and it isn’t clear what the new design looks like.

In addition, the range-topping Trailhawk trim will get new all-terrain tires. Again, those new tires will come later.

And that’s it. Those are the only changes to the 2024 Compass. However, the 2023 model received considerable upgrades; the latest version retains those attractive features.

Jeep made significant changes to the 2023 model

Though the 2024 Jeep Compass’ lack of substantial updates is disappointing, at least the automaker didn’t hike up the price. The SUV’s base MSRP is the same as the 2023 model’s starting price of $28,400. Additionally, the 2023 version saw significant changes, including a new engine.

The 2022 Compass had a 2.4-liter four-cylinder making 180 hp. Jeep swapped that out for a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder harnessing 200 hp in the 2023 model. Also, the 2022 version came with front-wheel drive as standard equipment, but the 2023 and 2024 models boast all-wheel drive as standard on all trims. Furthermore, the base transmission in the 2023 and 2024 Compass is an eight-speed automatic, an upgrade from the standard six-speed automatic in the 2022 model.

Jeep also upgraded the tech features. Before, the compact SUV started with an 8.4-inch touchscreen, but the 2023 and 2024 models have a 10.1-inch touchscreen. The newer models also have a few extra advanced safety features.

All those upgrades weren’t free, though. The 2023 Compass is more expensive than the 2022 model, which started at about $26,800.

The changes Jeep made to the 2024 Compass are minor. So, if the significant upgrades to the 2023 model didn’t impress car shoppers, they’ll probably shrug at the latest version. Overall, the Compass has too many weaknesses to be a strong contender against segment rivals.

The main problem is its value. It’s a compact SUV that, like other Jeeps, is designed to go off-road. Most compact SUV shoppers don’t care about tearing up trails, so the performance upgrades the Compass received are largely useless to most drivers. Those upgrades also increase the SUV’s price, making the Compass less affordable, to the tune of several thousand dollars.

That said, at least Jeep didn’t slap a heftier MSRP on the 2024 Compass. Automakers typically increase prices for new models, so the latest Compass could become more competitive at last year’s price point. But for now, the Compass hasn’t done enough to attract shoppers.
