2024 Hyundai Tucson vs. 2024 Dodge Hornet: Driving and performance

Performance is one of the most important aspects of a new car. This doesn’t mean everyone cares about having the fastest vehicle, but it is a notable factor. Regarding driving and performance, the 2024 Dodge Hornet comes out on top of the Hyundai Tucson. The new Dodge SUV has a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine with a maximum output of 268 hp. Its torque output is 295 lb-ft, and this is an all-wheel drive SUV.

The hybrid version, which is the Dodge Hornet R/T, uses a turbocharged 1.3-liter that makes 288 hp and has a torque of 383 lb-ft. While the Dodge Hornet GT uses a nine-speed automatic transmission, the hybrid version delivers the power via a six-speed automatic. This is also a pretty fast SUV, with the R/T being the fastest in its class of vehicles.

The 2024 Hyundai Tucson also delivers impressive performance. It has a 187-HP 2.5-liter inline-four engine with a torque of 178 lb-ft. The Tucson has front and all-wheel drive configurations and uses an eight-speed automatic transmission. However, the hybrid version of the new Hyundai Tucson has a 1.6-liter with a maximum output of 225 hp and a torque output of 258 lb-ft. As expected, this is a slower SUV than the 2024 Dodge Hornet.

2024 Hyundai Tucson vs. 2024 Dodge Hornet: Interior and tech

Both the 2024 Hyundai Tucson and the new Dodge Hornet have modern and impressive interiors. However, those wanting a bit more space will probably go for the Hyundai SUV as it’s bigger. Regarding overall vehicle length, the Hyundai comes in at 182.3 inches, while the 2024 Dodge Hornet is 178 inches long. The Hyundai holds 38.7 cubic feet, and the Dodge can handle 27 cubic feet of cargo with the seats in place. Each vehicle seats five people.

Both SUVs also use similar materials on the inside. The base trims of both use cloth seats, whereas higher trims have higher quality materials. Despite the Hyundai being the more spacious of the two, the SUVs are pretty similar in interior technology. The base model of the 2024 Hyundai Tucson has an 8.8-inch touchscreen, while a 10.3-inch unit is optional. However, all models of the 2024 Dodge Hornet have a 10.3-inch infotainment screen.

The main difference in technology is that wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard on the Dodge Hornet. Additionally, it has a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Though these SUVs are fairly similar in this regard, some may call the Dodge Hornet a bit more technologically advanced. This means buyers who care more about space might pick the Hyundai, while those who are more tech-inclined might decide on the Hornet.

Trim levels and features

The 2024 Hyundai Tucson and the new Dodge Hornet are pretty evenly matched when it comes to trim levels. This is because they both have four options for buyers to pick from. The Hyundai has the SE, SEL, XRT, and the Limited. For the Hornet, the trim levels are the GT, GT Plus, R/T, and the R/T Plus. Regarding the Dodge, the main difference is that the GT is gas-powered while the RT trims are hybrid.

Regarding the Hyundai, the base SE trim has features such as an eight-inch touchscreen, 17-inch alloy wheels, and six speakers. However, more advanced trims have a bigger infotainment screen, 19-inch alloy wheels, and eight speakers. The Dodge Hornet base trim offers things like 17-inch alloy wheels and cloth/leatherette-timed seats. Higher trims have leather upholstery, heated steering wheels, and a 14-speaker premium sound system.

Regarding which SUV is best for you, most would probably say the Dodge Hornet. Not only is it the most powerful of the two, but it also has a more advanced interior. However, the Hyundai Tucson is the larger of the two vehicles, which means people who need more space may prefer it.
