Americans love big pickup trucks, but heavy-duty models really take things to the next level. And that is especially true with the 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500HD ZR2. Those familiar with Chevy are no stranger to the ZR2 moniker. It’s part of the brand’s commitment to off-road trucks, and now it’s come to the Silverado 2500HD.

How much will the 2024 Silverado HD cost?

The 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500HD has a starting MSRP of $43,400. But the ZR2 trim will likely cost much more than that. General Motors has not confirmed the pricing of this new off-road package, but it would not be surprising to see it start north of $80k.

Heavy-duty trucks often come with a pretty high price tag. And that is because these vehicles are made to do big jobs. In the case of the 2024 Silverado 2500 ZR2, that’s going to be taken to the next level. This pickup truck is meant to do much more than just towing and hauling.

What does ZR2 mean on a Chevy?

ZR2 is Chevy’s off-road moniker. Now, it is finding its way to the Silverado 2500. It is going to come with 35-inch mud-terrain tires, a lifted suspension, and multiple bash plates. This should take a capable truck and make it even more capable.

The ZR2 trim is already offered to other Chevy trucks. Both the Colorado and the Silverado 1500 can get the ZR2 treatment. Clearly, the brand did not think that was enough. Because now it’s featured on the 2024 Silverado 2500HD.

Each Chevy Silverado 2500HD ZR2 will come with four-wheel drive and an Allison 10-speed automatic transmission. Buyers will have the choice between two engines. You can get the standard 6.6-liter V8 with 401 horsepower or an optional Duramax 6.6-liter V8 that produces 470 hp and 975 lb-ft of torque.

When properly equipped, this off-road truck will be able to tow up to 18,500 lbs. Overall, you can’t really call this an underpowered pickup.

The Chevy Silverado 2500HD ZR2 is coming

Although it’s not here yet, an off-road variant of the Silverado 2500HD is coming. Perhaps one of the biggest changes for the ZR2 version will be the Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers. According to Car and Driver, these should help with comfort when off-roading.

Additionally, if you know about the Silverado 1500 ZR2 Bison, the heavy-duty version is also getting the Bison treatment. This package is a collaboration between Chevy and American Expedition Vehicles.

The ZR2 Bison unlocks a spot to add a winch, and it will get a unique set of wheels. Although the Chevy Silverado 2500HD ZR2 Bison will probably be too much truck for a lot of folks. But it is nice that the brand has put the effort out there.
