Pickup trucks are the workhorses of our time. Hard-working people from the agriculture, construction, and lawn care industries rely on them daily. But the new 2024 Chevy Silverado heavy-duty pickup truck isn’t made only for working any more than you are. The Silverado HD is capable of having fun too.

2024 Chevy Silverado HD models and trim levels

Chevrolet recently announced that the 2024 Chevy Silverado would continue to offer “heavy-duty truck capabilities” in an upgraded package. The 2024 Silverado HD lineup will include regular, double, and crew cab versions of the 2500HD and 3500HD models. In addition, while the 2500HD is only available with single rear wheels, the 3500HD allows single or dual rear wheel configurations to customize the truck to your needs.

Besides the base Work Truck (WT) trim level, the 2024 Silverado HD will be available in Custom, LT, LTZ, and High Country trim levels upon release. In addition, Chevrolet plans to add the off-road-oriented ZR2 trim to the Silverado HD lineup “later in the model year.”

Chevrolet utilizes an Allison 10-speed automatic transmission with its 6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel engine. For 2024, that 10-speed transmission replaces the old 6-speed automatic behind the 6.6-liter gasoline-powered V8.

The 2024 Silverado HD features an available Duramax 6.6-liter with 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque. The standard gas-powered 6.6-liter provides 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque, and its lighter weight allows additional payload capacity

As usual, Chevrolet will offer a choice between rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drivetrains regardless of the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD cab configuration, model, or trim chosen.

The 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500HD, equipped with the “Max Tow Package,” rear-wheel drive, and the 6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel engine, can tow up to 22,500 pounds when using a 5th-wheel or gooseneck hitch. Under conventional trailering, the 2500HD can tow up to 20,000 pounds when properly equipped.

For 2024, the 3500HD’s Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) increases to 26,000 pounds, up from 24,000 pounds when equipped with the 6.6-liter gas engine. Pulling heavy loads is no problem with the 3500HD dual rear wheel standard cab configuration capable of towing up to 36,000 pounds when equipped with a gooseneck hitch or 32,000 pounds with a fifth-wheel hitch.

Is the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD a workhorse?

The Silverado HD line has long held a reputation for strength and durability and the upcoming 2024 model promises to do its part in carrying on that tradition. Increased GCWR, low-end torque, towing capacity, and advancing safety technology make the forthcoming Silverado HD line more capable and safe than ever.

But the new Chevy Silverado HD line isn’t built only for work. Its luxurious interior also cradles occupants while towing your boat to the lake or your camper to the mountains. The High Country trim is the best example of Silverado HD luxury featuring “open-pore wood” accents inside the cabin and leather upholstery with a “wingtip pattern.”

Additional features include “power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats with memory,” a Bose audio system, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
