You’ve probably seen multiple articles about how the 2024 Toyota Tacoma has incredible upgrades. That’s true it has more power and modern amenities to be truly impressive.

However, the Chevy Colorado deserves a little more time in the spotlight. It was remodeled for 2023 with incredible upgrades that didn’t get as much attention.

But several outlets mentioned that the 2023 Colorado is their truck of the year. Plus, according to Edmunds, the Colorado outranks the Tacoma.

The Colorado is the top-ranking midsize truck with a score of 8.1 out of 10. The 2024 Honda Ridgeline came in second place with a score of 8.0 and the 2024 Toyota Tacoma is in third place with a 7.8.

The Colorado ranks highly for having a composed ride quality, stout towing power, a quick acceleration, an intuitive Google-based infotainment system, and the highly capable ZR2 off-road model.

With the 2.7-liter four-cylinder TurboMax engine, you get 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.0 seconds. The Colorado can tow up to 7,700 lbs.

But the base engine sounds coarse, item storage is limited, and the seats could be more comfortable.

The Tacoma ranks highly for having capable off-roading TRD trims, tons of trim variations/configurations available, and a stout hybrid powertrain. But the fuel economy figures haven’t been released yet.

With the Tacoma Hybrid, the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine is paired with an electric motor and a battery pack to generate 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. The Tacoma can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.0 seconds and can tow up to 6,500 lbs.

Potential drawbacks include its engine noise under hard accelerations and its tight rear seat. But while the Colorado comes in one size, it has multiple cabins and bed lengths to consider.

The Colorado may rank higher because it’s a little more athletic, can tow more, and may offer more passenger space.
