The Buick Encore GX has had an interesting rise to fame in the Buick crossover SUV lineup. Initially, the Buick Encore GX was advertised as a larger alternative to the Buick Encore, a subcompact SUV in the Buick lineup. This is where the similarities end, as the Buick Encore and the Buick Encore GX were entirely different vehicles built on separate platforms with different powertrains.

The Buick Encore and Encore GX also had vastly different levels of sales success. Once introduced, the Encore GX quickly supplanted its predecessor as the more popular model, which soon led to the original Encore being discontinued.

With the Buick Encore GX now entering another year of production with a new, much-needed facelift, there is one trim that shoppers like more than the others. Here is everything you need to know about the 2024 Buick Encore GX’s most popular trim.

2024 Buick Encore GX trim levels

The 2024 Buick Encore GX has a lower price than the previous 2023 model, according to Buick. The 2024 model starts at $25,600 MSRP for the base Preferred trim. This trim comes with a 137 horsepower turbocharged three-cylinder engine, cloth and synthetic leather upholstery, keyless entry, an 8-inch digital gauge cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Andriod Auto, and a large 11-inch infotainment display. Regarding safety, standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic braking, lane departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlights.

Above the Preferred trim level is the Sport Touring trim, which starts at $28,095 MSRP and comes with a larger 155-horsepower three-cylinder engine. The Sport Touring trim also adds larger 18-inch gloss black wheels, a black grille, LED headlights, and roof rails. The top trim is the Avenir model, which starts at $33,195 MSRP and adds a 120-volt power outlet, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, remote start, and an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat.

According to Edmunds, the most popular trim level among consumers is the Sport Touring trim. Car and Driver and Autotrader both agree with Edmunds, listing the ST trim level as the best value for the money. This trim level is an excellent option for consumers looking for a Buick crossover with a little more flair. The base Preferred model is already a great value, but the larger engine alongside a sharper front fascia and gloss black wheels brings the exterior to the next level.

Meanwhile, U.S. News suggests the Preferred trim, though with the model’s upgraded engine, citing its competitive pricing and value on the market.

If you would like your Sport Touring model to be a little more impressive, you can add an Advanced Technology Package, which adds wireless charging, adaptive cruise control, rear park assist, and a surround-view camera. Another optional package, the Comfort Package, adds a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, a passenger seat that folds completely flat, and a remote start.

Whether or not the Buick Encore GX Sport Touring is right for you all comes down to your needs. Many drivers will be satisfied with the Preferred model’s standard features, despite its low power output. Those drivers looking for a more premium experience will feel at home in the Avenir model, which gives drivers a near-Cadillac experience in a subcompact SUV package.
