Alongside the Supra, the GR86 is one of two sports cars Toyota sells in the U.S. The 2023 Toyota GR86 is also one of the few remaining new models with a manual transmission, making it an excellent choice for enthusiasts. That said, even fans of a pure driving experience also want modern tech features in a new car. For instance, does the 2023 Toyota GR86 have Android Auto?

After a 2022 redesign for the second generation, the 2023 Toyota GR86 doesn’t feature any exterior changes from the previous model year. With its $28,925 starting price, the car is slightly cheaper than the nearly identical Subaru BRZ, Car and Driver reports. The base price brings a 2.4-liter flat-four boxer engine making 228 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, paired with a six-speed manual transmission.

Nevertheless, a six-speed automatic is also available. Every model is also rear-wheel drive with the same engine regardless of trim level. Speaking of trims, there are three: Base, Premium, and Special Edition.

Highlights for the standard model include 17-inch wheels and Michelin Primacy tires. The Premium trim features Michelin Pilot Sport tires on 18-inch wheels and a duckbill spoiler. This model also adds leather or suede seats and an upgraded audio system.

For the 2023 lineup, Toyota added the Special Edition. It has only exterior cosmetic tweaks. They include black chrome tips, matte black wheels, and an exclusive exterior orange paint color called Solar Shift. The automaker says it will produce only 860 examples of the Special Edition.

Every 2023 Toyota GR86 model has four seats. But because it’s a sports car, the rear seating might be uncomfortable for adults. However, kids should fit fine.

The dashboard includes an 8.0-inch infotainment screen and a 7.0-inch digital gauge cluster. The latter is reconfigurable to match your driving preferences.

Ultimately, this affordable sports car offers a fun driving experience despite the unimpressive engine sound and road noise in the cabin at high speeds, Car and Driver says.

Does the 2023 Toyota GR86 have Android Auto?

Yes, every 2023 Toyota GR86 model comes with Android Auto integration. This system allows the user to connect their smartphone to the infotainment screen in the vehicle. It works by mirroring the phone screen and even allows for voice commands. Consequently, drivers can make calls and even use apps like Google Maps for models without built-in navigation.

Using Android Auto is ultimately more convenient than using a smartphone. It’s also safer because you won’t look down at your phone while driving because it’s displayed on the dashboard. Nevertheless, there are still some hiccups with integration in some vehicles, although the Toyota GR86 doesn’t seem to have any problems with Android Auto connectivity.

Other helpful tech features in the 2023 model

Apple CarPlay, the iPhone-compatible equivalent of Android Auto, is also standard in the 2023 Toyota GR86. Plus, this model has a few hidden tech features you might not have known about.

One is the optional GR exhaust. This system, which costs extra, has a lighter 304 stainless-steel muffler instead of the standard steel. It’s also sized differently, providing improved sound. Overall, the GR exhaust system reduces weight and adds power.

In addition, an oil heat exchanger safely keeps the oil at optimum operating temperatures. It also prevents the oil from overheating through passive cooling.
