The Jeep Wagoneer has been an interesting addition to the massive SUV segment. It’s a three-row behemoth that is both a throwback to one of the most iconic SUVs ever as well as a new take on the large family transport vehicle. Now the 2023 Jeep Wagoneer L and its luxury sibling the Jeep Grand Wagoneer L are getting even bigger. In fact, they’ll be even larger than the Chevy Suburban. How much bigger will the new Jeep Wagoneer L be?

How long is the 2023 Jeep Wagoneer L?

The 2023 Jeep Wagoneer L will get an extended wheelbase, making it 130 inches, according to Car and Driver. It isn’t just the wheelbase that’s getting longer, though – the whole Wagoneer will be longer, with the 2023 Jeep Wagoneer L reaching 226.7 inches. Its luxury sibling, the Grand Wagoneer L, will be the same size. That makes these SUVs incredibly long, and gives it so much cargo space that it will likely be a favorite among large families and those who regularly need to carry a whole lot of stuff. This is a full inch longer than the 2023 Chevy Suburban, which will be 225.7 inches.

While the 2023 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer L are getting longer, Car and Driver says that won’t make a huge difference for passengers. What it will do, however, is give the Wagoneer a lot more cargo space. How much extra space? The 2023 Wagoneer L will be able to hold up to 131 cubic feet of storage, with the max number of seats down. The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer can only hold 117 cubic feet.

The Wagoneer L’s engine will be more fuel-efficient

So the 2023 Jeep Wagoneer L will be bigger and therefore heavier than the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer. That means it will use more gas, right? Surprisingly, no, and the reason why it won’t has to do with its engine. The 2023 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are getting a whole new engine. It’s the Hurricane, a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six. This is matched to an 8-speed automatic transmission and you can get rear, all, or four-wheel-drive. The 2023 Wagoneer L has a standard output engine that makes 420 hp and 468 lb-ft of torque. This gets 19 mpg.

In comparison, the current 2022 Jeep Wagoneer has a 5.7-liter V8 engine that makes 392 hp and 404 lb-ft of torque. This less powerful engine actually gets slightly worse fuel economy than the new, longer Jeep Wagoneer L. The 2022 Wagoneer gets only 18 mpg.

How much will the new Wagoneer cost?

The 2023 Jeep Wagoneer price is estimated to start at about $61,000. Although the Wagoneer L is sure to cost more than the base model Series I Jeep Wagoneer, there’s no official pricing yet. Still, the 2023 Jeep Wagoneer L will be released in the summer of 2022, so we should get some pricing soon.

The Jeep Wagoneer is a massive SUV that’s about to get even bigger. If you’ve always loved the Jeep Wagoneer but wanted a little more cargo space you’ll be happy to know that you’re going to get even more room. Just how much you’ll pay for that room remains to be seen, but we should find out soon enough.
