The Renegade is one of several SUVs in Jeep’s lineup. This subcompact crossover provides much of what Jeep fans expect. That said, the Renegade offers many trims, so choosing the best one is challenging. However, most car shoppers pick one specific 2023 Jeep Renegade trim.

Overview of the 2023 Jeep Renegade trims

Jeep offers five 2023 Renegade trims, starting with the $28,400 Latitude. After that, there’s the $29,200 Upland. It’s similar to the base model but adds exterior styling upgrades. For example, it sports different front and rear fascias and a unique hood decal.

Then there’s the $29,400 Altitude, which boasts a nicer interior. It has premium cloth upholstery and upscale features such as remote start.

The Trailhawk trim comes next, starting at about $32,500. As the name implies, it’s the off-road-focused Renegade model. It has a raised suspension, skid plates, a hill descent control system, and other off-road features.

Finally, there’s the Limited. Jeep starts this range-topping model at about $33,000. Luxurious amenities include leather upholstery and heated front seats.

Jeep SUVs are famous for their off-roading capability, but Renegade shoppers aren’t too interested in going all-in on that perk. Edmunds says the most popular 2023 Jeep Renegade trim isn’t the off-roading Trailhawk or the luxurious Limited. It’s the standard Latitude. Overall, though, the base model is similar to most of the other trims of this Jeep SUV.

That’s particularly true regarding their powertrains. The Renegade has only one powertrain configuration, a 1.3-liter turbo four-cylinder making 177 hp and 210 lb-ft of torque. It pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. This setup allows the Jeep to get about 26 mpg combined. The engine also allows the SUV to tow about 2,000 pounds.

The Latitude is practical on the inside too. It maxes out at 50.8 cubic feet of cargo capacity, about average for a subcompact crossover. It also only offers one touchscreen, an 8.4-inch display that’s standard across all trims. The base model also has cloth seats and a six-speaker sound system. And advanced safety features include forward collision warning, blind-spot warning, and trailer sway damping.

Why do most consumers buy the Latitude?

Because the 2023 Jeep Renegade base model is so similar to its other trims, it’s easy to see why SUV shoppers are attracted to it. While the Limited’s upscale features are appealing, not every driver wants leather upholstery. And though the Trailhawk is suitable for off-roading, most subcompact crossover shoppers want a daily driver.

Instead, the majority of people want the most value for their car. That’s what the Latitude provides. It’s the cheapest Renegade trim yet offers many features owners want in a vehicle. That’s a strong enough reason for many to choose the base model over the others.
