The Ford Maverick has proven to hit so many of the targets for what people want out of a small pickup truck in 2023; it’s small, cheap, and efficient. We know this is true because of how difficult it is to get one. The orders have been coming in hotter than a discount muffler. As many continue to pine after the cheap little truck, over a year since its release, it might be a good time to follow up and see if the little truck is all it’s cracked up to be. Mainly, is the 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid as fuel efficient as it seems to be?

The Ford Maverick Hybrid claims 42 MPG in town and 33 MPG on the highway. While we spent some time testing the 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid, we didn’t have it long enough to determine any long-term issues with fuel efficiency. However, MotorTrend has kept meticulous records of things like fuel consumption and reliability for the long-term model. After 10,000 miles with the Maverick, it is revealed that the Maverick Hybrid has made good on its promise of great fuel economy.

After burning 287 gallons and covering 10,000 miles, MT reports that the 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid returned an average of 35 MPG overall. This is squarely where EPA estimates and Ford’s promises said it would be.

We have become bitter in our expectations of our cars and trucks, or more accurately, the companies that make them. However, the Ford Maverick Hybrid makes good on its promise in this case.

Not only does the Ford Maverick Hybrid perform just as it should at the pumps, but so does the Maverick with the EcoBoost. As we mentioned, the Maverick Hybrid brought down 35 MPG overall, whereas the non-hybrid version got an average of 26 MPG.

That is a pretty large gap, but still exactly what Ford promised. Of course, the hybrid system is what gives the base Maverick the advantage. The electric part of the powertrain works as often as possible to make that overall MPG possible.

All this great MPG news might have you, along with everyone else, wanting a little truck of your own. Unfortunately, getting your hands on a new Ford Maverick might be tricky due to the truck’s wild popularity – especially if you want a hybrid Maverick truck.

Regarding getting a 2023 model, you’ll have to settle for a used one because this model year is completely sold out. The order banks for the 2024 model opened on July 17, 2023. Knowing exactly how long it will take for customers to get actually get a 2024 Maverick in the driveway is tough to know for sure. However, most sources claim something around a six-month wait. This would land 2024 models at customers’ homes sometime in late fall or winter of 2023.

Is the 2024 Ford Maverick worth the wait?

It is really easy to get grumpy about these things. Wait times like this aren’t normal. It feels very far away now, but there was once a time (pre-2020) when you could go to the dealership and actually shop for new models. However, those days seem to be gone, at least for the time being. And now, if there’s an affordable truck model that delivers quality and efficiency to customers, you better believe you will have to wait to get one. So, in that respect, the Ford Maverick Hybrid is totally worth it. By every metric, the small Ford pickup seems to deliver for a truck priced so well.
