The 2023 Ford Maverick is available in three trims, each with distinct features and capabilities to suit various preferences and needs.

XL: The base model offers affordability and efficiency. Its 2.5-liter hybrid engine provides excellent fuel economy. Standard features include an 8.0-inch touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, a rearview camera, and Ford Co-Pilot360 driver-assistance features. The starting price for the 2023 Maverick XL is $23,690.

XLT: Stepping up to the XLT trim brings upgraded cloth upholstery, keyless entry, a power-locking tailgate, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The XLT also offers the Tremor Off-Road Package, the FLEXBED system, and the FX4 Off-Road Package, which is available only with the non-hybrid all-wheel-drive powertrain. The 2023 Maverick XLT starts at $25,950.

Lariat: This range-topping Ford Maverick trim specializes in comfort and luxury. Upscale interior features include a power-adjustable driver’s seat and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Lariat also offers options such as a 6.5-inch digital instrument cluster and 18-inch aluminum wheels. Ford starts the 2023 Maverick Lariat at $29,450.

The base-model XL is the most popular 2023 Ford Maverick trim, according to Edmunds. One of the XL’s most attractive features is the starting price of well under $30,000. Its appeal is that it offers towing and hauling capabilities, a standard hybrid engine for excellent fuel economy (an EPA-estimated 37 mpg combined), and a rearview camera for less than the price of the full-size F-150 or the midsize Ranger.

All Ford Maverick trims pack a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and electric motor for a combined 191 hp. Even though it has a hybrid powertrain, it can haul 1,500 pounds and tow 2,000 pounds. And with the turbocharged four-cylinder and the optional Towing Package, this small truck can tow 4,000 pounds — respectable for the price point.

Although most shoppers pick the 2023 Ford Maverick XL trim, experts from two respected outlets recommend the XLT.

“The midlevel XLT looks to be the one to get,” Edmunds reviewers say. “It doesn’t have many additional standard features over the base XL, but it does give you more choices should you want additional options, including the new Tremor Off-Road package. The best value for the Maverick also comes from sticking with the base, and highly fuel-efficient, hybrid powertrain.”

The Car and Driver team agrees the XLT is the best 2023 Ford Maverick trim. This model boasts 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, cruise control, a power tailgate lock, power external mirrors, and upgraded upholstery. This trim feels far more luxurious than the XL.

Furthermore, the Maverick XLT comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, forward collision prevention, LED headlights, power windows, rear under-seat storage compartments, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen. Car and Driver reviewers say they would upgrade to the optional turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and add AWD. The XLT trim, which builds on the XL model’s amenities, is a bargain for only $2,000 more than the base model.
