  • 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70: $65,850 – $72,650
  • Pros: Addicting Boost Mode, ultra comfort, tons of standard features
  • Cons: Limited range for the price, no wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, less cargo space compared to rivals.

If you’re a fan of the Genesis GV70, then buckle up because the 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 is even better with added luxury refinement and power. It builds upon the award-warning GV70 with sophistication and efficiency.

While range feels somewhat limited initially, the fast charging times, rapid acceleration, and powerful regenerative brakes make up for the difference. Plus, the GV70 EV offers exceptional comfort and athletic performance.

It starts at a higher price than the 2023 BMW X3 and Mercedes-Bens GLC, but it offers the quietest ride in the class with advanced tech to make daily commutes relaxing and stress-free. You can also use sporty features to your advantage for a dynamic experience.

We’ve put tons of miles on the premium electric beast in Atlanta, GA, Asheville, NC, and Denver, CO, to judge its performance thoroughly.

2023 Genesis Electrified GV70: What’s new?

The 2023 Genesis Eletrified GV70 is based on the gas-powered model that debuted in 2023. They’re nearly identical except for different powertrains and minor tech differences. The GV70 EV isn’t available in every state yet, but the list is growing. Also, it’s proudly built in Alabama.

There are two GV70 electric SUV options available:

  • 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 Advanced – $65,850
  • 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 Prestige – $72,650

The entry-level model is a bargain, as features such as AWD are standard across the lineup. This trim includes leather upholstery, an adaptive road-scanning suspension, built-in navigation, a hands-free liftgate, tri-zone climate control, an automated self-parking system, and much more.

However, opting for the Prestige package provides upgraded leather upholstery, a microfiber suede headliner, heated seats in the second row, a heated steering wheel, a 15-speaker Lexicon sound system, active noise cancellation, a head-up display, and larger digital cluster display with 3D graphics.

How much range does the electric GV70 have?

The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 has an EPA-estimated 236 miles on a single charge. This sounds low, but it’s average for electric SUVs in its class. However, the Telsa Model Y rings in with 303 miles of range, and the Audi Q4 E-Tron barely beats it with 241 miles.

But you may notice that the GV70 EV often betters range estimates thanks to efficient regenerative braking. It also charges faster than rivals. With a DC faster charger, you can replenish the range from 10 to 80% in roughly 18 minutes.

Use a Level 2 charger to go from 10 to 100% in about seven hours. Also, the average person drives under 30 miles a day, so it has plenty of juice for heading to work and running errands.

The charging times are some of the fastest that I’ve ever experienced, especially compared to the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

How does the 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 drive?

The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 packs a powerful punch thanks to the 77.4-kWh battery pack and dual electric motors that generate 429 hp. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds. The gas-powered model reaches 60 mph in 4.9 seconds.

We enjoy the direct steering and responsive handling for confident cornering. The low center of gravity eliminates body roll, but the tires could provide a little more grip. You don’t really get a sense of the road conditions as it glides over imperfections.

The driving modes for Sport, Normal, Eco, and Comfort have distinct traits for noticeably different experiences. The Sport Mode is tighter with faster response times, while the Eco Mode slows down in an aggressive manner.

There are four different regenerative braking modes, and each one feels more cumbersome than the last, but energy is regenerated at an impressive rate. Creating your own driving mode with a combination of each of the preset modes is easy.

Use Boost Mode to gain an additional 52 hp for 10 seconds. It slingshots you forward to easily pass others and liven up the drive. The seat bolstering hugs you after you press the button for a satisfying burst of excitement.

I found it to be a little sad when you can’t press Boost Mode, with only about 30 to 20% of the charge left. It’s addicting, and I’d like to push it until all the juice is dried up. But I guess it does make sense to prioritize arriving at your next destination over quick thrills.

How comfortable is the 2023 Electrified GV70?

Comfort is a top priority for the 2023 Electrified Genesis GV70, and it’s noticeable with the ultra-smooth ride over rough sections of pavement. The standard adaptive suspension scans the road to prepare for incoming impacts.

The seats work ergonomically to keep you energized. The smart posture assist system comes on every 40 minutes or so to help drivers remain focused and refreshed.

Also, the interior is peacefully silent and relaxing, even at highway speeds. The plush leather seats are supportive and welcoming for hours of comfort during trips. The upholstery is soft to the touch for a soothing effect. But the ventilated seats could be stronger.

Passengers in the rear are spoiled by well-padded seats and a rear bench that reclines. Space for those in the back is average, but two adults can comfortably fit and stretch out. There are air vents and optional heated seats in the back as well.

Is the 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 interior nice?

Yes, the 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 interior is elegant and upscale with durable build quality. It has an attractive simplicity that’s accented by vibrant ambient lighting and subtle metal accents. Plus, it’s crafted with sustainable materials such as recycled plastics and fish netting.

The black leather with white accent stitching is attractive, but the Glacier White upholstery is cream of the crop. It’s resistant to stains and emphasizes that premium luxury feeling. The leather-wrapped surfaces are plush and soft.

The massive panoramic sunroof has a heavy tint, and not much natural light gets through. Visibility out of the front is excellent, but it feels tight in the rear. However, the blind spot warning system and 360-degree display make up for the difference.

You can tell that the interior was carefully planned because everything you need is placed carefully within reach. Plenty of adjustment controls exist for lumbar and tight support, and the seat bolstering adjusts.

Does the Electrified GV70 have good tech?

The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 has cutting-edge technology but lacks wireless Apple CarPlay and Andorid Auto. I understand why that’s upsetting, but to be truthful, you don’t need it. Connecting your phone via Bluetooth works just fine.

You can still access Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with a wired connection, and most people still have cords in their vehicles.

Also, this is a personal problem, but the 3D digital gauge cluster is a little blurry and can cause motion sickness. Luckily, it’s easy to adjust. In fact, every single aspect of the Genesis GV70 is intuitive and simple to customize.

The 14.5-inch touchscreen has vibrant, attractive graphics and excellent camera views. The automated parking system works on the keyfob and lets you out of tight spaces in a jiffy.

Use the Genesis Digital Key app to keep track of your vehicle stats and charging times and to unlock your vehicle. The two-way charging system powers personal devices and can even charge other electric vehicles.

How much cargo space does the 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 have?

The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 has an adequate amount of cargo space. You can access up to 28.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and up to 56.5 cubes overall. It trails the competition a little.

You can easily fold the seats flat, and the rear hatch opens wide to make loading heavy or bulky items easier. I love a good frunk, which the Genesis GV70 EV is lacking, but that’s fine. Having a heat pump instead is beneficial for charging times and range.

There are plenty of small item storage solutions. Eliminating a traditional gear shift frees up space beneath the center stack, the center console is generous, and the door pockets are relatively spacious.

The electric GV70 has wide door openings and a spacious backseat, allowing parents to install child seats easily.

How safe is the 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70?

The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 doesn’t have any official crash ratings yet. But the gas-powered model it’s based on is an Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick+. It earned the highest honors, so that’s a good sign.

You can use the Highway Driver Assist II feature after a long day to relax, but you need to keep your hands on the wheel. The system does a great job of keeping the SUV centered in the middle of your lane at an appropriate distance from other vehicles.

Standard safety features include:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Forward collision warning
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Blind spot warning and intervention
  • Driver attention warning
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Rear automatic braking
  • A 360-degree camera display

Is the 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 reliable?

The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 doesn’t have an official reliability ranking yet. It’s still brand new and needs to be put through the paces. However, the regular GV70 has a reliability score of 84 out of 100 from J.D.Power.

This is a good indicator because it falls in the above-average range. Other critics also predict that the GV70 EV will have an above-average rating. It’s predicted to last between 200,000 to 250,000 miles, but things may change as Genesis models are tested.

In typical Genesis fashion, the GV70 EV has an excellent warranty. The powertrain is covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. The limited warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles, and you get complimentary maintenance for 36,000 miles.

MotorBiscuit gives the 2023 Electrified Genesis GV70 a score of 8.4 out of 10

The experts at MotorBiscuit (including me) provide the 2023 Electrified Genesis with a ranking of 8.4 out of 10. The electric GV70 is a well-rounded bargain with a long list of standard features.

While rivals may offer more range and cargo space, the GV70 has tons of standard power and unmatched comfort for daily driving. It’s extremely easy to customize with athletic and efficient driving modes.

We can’t wait to see what special editions roll off the line as production ramps up in Alabama and it becomes available in more states.
