Which model year is best? If you can catch a 2023 Chevrolet Suburban before it’s gone, should you jump on it? Or does the 2024 Chevy Suburban have crucial upgrades to spring for? Let’s see how they compare.

2023 Chevrolet Suburban vs. 2024 Chevy Suburban

If there are any 2023 Chevrolet Suburban models left on the lot then you might be able to save a little cheddar.

The 2023 Suburban starts with an MSRP of $57,200. The $1,895 increases the starting price to $59,095.

On the other end of the spectrum, the High Country trim takes the price up to $77,795 with the destination fee included.

The 2024 Suburban starts at $59,200 and the $1,995 destination fee takes the price up to $61,195. The High Country trim is $80,395. The destination fee increased by $100 and each Suburban model is $2,100 more.

What’s new for the 2024 Suburban?

There are no significant changes for the 2024 Suburban. It’s pretty much identical to the 2023 Chevrolet Suburban lineup.

Both model years have the same engine options:

  • 5.3-liter V8 – 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque
  • 6.2-liter V8 – 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque
  • Turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six diesel – 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.

The gas-powered 2023 Suburban gets an EPA-estimated 15 mpg in the city and up to 19 mpg on the highway.

The diesel-powered model gets an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and up to 26 mpg on the highway.

With the 6.2-liter engine, the Suburban can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.7 seconds.

How much towing power and space does the Suburban have?

When properly equipped, the 2023 Suburban can tow up to 8,300 lbs with the 5.3-liter engine and 8,100 lbs with the diesel engine. It can carry a payload of up to 1,884 lbs.

Also, the suburban still has the same amount of cargo space. You can access up to 41.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, 93.8 cubes behind the second tow, and 144.7 cubes overall.

Storage for smaller items is limited. The center console is tight and the cup holders are small.

There is plenty of passenger space too. Adults can comfortably fit in each row. Although, the third-row seats are a bit stiff in comparison.

Leg room for each row includes:

  • First: 42.3 inches
  • Second: 38.9 inches
  • Third: 38.2 inches

How comfortable is the Suburban?

The 2023 Chevrolet Suburban and the 2024 model have an independent multi-link rear suspension that delivers a much smoother performance compared to the older solid axle setup.

Plus, you can opt for the available magnetic ride control and adaptive air suspension for a more peaceful experience that keeps wind and road noise at bay.

The seats are wide and supportive with lumbar support, but they aren’t the most comfortable options in the world. They may start to feel flat and stiff during longer trips.

Also, the climate control system struggles to keep up at times, especially when it’s hot out. The layout is cluttered with small buttons that are difficult to press.

What comes standard with the Suburban?

The 2023 Chevrolet Suburban and the 2024 model have the same standard features:

  • LED headlights
  • 18-inch wheels
  • Eight-passenger seating with an optional front-row bench
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto
  • Six-speaker audio system
  • Tri-zone automatic climate control
  • Standard safety features include:
  • Forward collision mitigation
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane-keeping assist
  • Parking sensors

How long is the wait for a 2024 Suburban?

With the best-case scenario, the wait for a 2024 Chevy Suburban is only eight to 10 weeks. However, Chevrolet has been hit with a few delays due to supply chain constraints and rising inflation.

The Suburban is built in Arlington, Texas, and was impacted by the United Autoworkers (UAW) strike that caused plants to close for six weeks.

While Chevrolet has been working to catch up on production, a realistic timeline is more along the lines of three to eight months. Your local dealership may have more information.

But if a 2023 Chevrolet Suburban is left on the lot, you can get it at a cheaper price and don’t have to wait. Plus, you won’t be missing out because the 2024 model is basically the same.
