Alfa Romeo’s luxury car offers everything from attractive styling to fierce performance in the 505-horsepower Quadrifoglio. However, the 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia will see a new addition to the trim lineup, the Estrema. The latest trim will split the difference between the Giulia Veloce and the range-topping Quadrifoglio. So what’s different about Alfa Romeo’s latest luxury sedan and its new trim?

What’s different about the 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia?

The upcoming 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia will incorporate a new trim, the Estrema. Other than that, it is unlikely that Alfa Romeo will make any more updates to its flagship sedan. Sedan fans can find solace in the fact that the Giulia doesn’t lose its styling. In a European sports sedan market brimming with controversially styled BMWs and sober Audis, the Alfa Romeo is a welcome departure.

What is the Estrema?

The “Extreme,” as it means in Italian, will be the second-highest of five trim levels in the 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia lineup. Top Gear says the Estrema will incorporate many of the performance-oriented attributes of the sharp Quadrifoglio, like the limited slip differential and adaptive suspension. However, the new trim won’t get the fire-breathing 505-horsepower 2.9L turbocharged-V6 engine. Instead, the Estrema will get some of the Quadrioglio’s finer luxury features, like a wireless phone charging pad.

How much will the 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia Estrema cost?

The  2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia Estrema will have a starting cost of $56,685. At that price point, the Estrema will cost roughly $5,500 more than the Veloce trim. However, the Estrema will cost quite a bit more than the Giulia Ti, with its $47,585 price tag. Also, the new second-highest trim will overshadow the bottom tier Sprint trim by over $10,000, with its starting price of $45,545. Unfortunately, every carry-over Giulia trim has a price bump of a bit under $1,000.

However, the new trim addition won’t set you back anywhere near as much as the V6-powered Quadrifoglio. Instead, the range-topping 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia has a starting price of $81,025. That is pretty steep, with a new BMW M3’s starting price hovering around $73,795. Still, you’d have to reconcile choosing the M3’s looks over the Giulia.

How efficient is the new Estrema?

Since the Estrema shares a powerplant with the other lower trims, it gets turbocharged four-cylinder economy. The new Giulia trim earns an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimated 24 mpg in the city and 33 mpg at highway speeds. The same goes for every trim other than the top-tier Quadrifoglio. According to TrueCar, the high-horsepower sedan demands 17 mpg in the city and just 25 mpg at highway speeds.

Should you buy the new 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia Estrema?

The new trim features carbon fiber interior trim, Alcantara leather aplenty, and contrast stitching for the European luxury sedan fanatic. Still, the fine material-laden Giulia costs quite a bit less than the Ferrari-esque range-topper. If you want the finest materials in your Italian sedan and decent fuel economy without breaking the bank, Alfa Romeo’s latest trim might scratch your itch.
