Are you shopping for a new midsize SUV? Both the 2022 Toyota Venza and 2022 Ford Edge are probably on your list of options. Which of the two is better for you? In our comparison, we’ll take a look at a few different key metrics. Among them are fuel economy, performance, interior quality and space, technology, features, and price.

Venza vs. Edge: Performance and fuel economy

Firstly, the 2022 Toyota Venza has only one drivetrain choice, a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid. Additionally, driving modes like Normal, Eco, and Sport prepare you for the road ahead. Since it comes with standard all-wheel drive, excellent fuel economy is hard to come by. However, the Venza hybrid midsize SUV gets a great 40 city miles per gallon and 37 highway mpg.

On the other hand, the 2022 Ford Edge comes with either the base 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder or a 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 in its ST variant. Either drivetrain setup comes with all-wheel drive, and the high-performance ST option provides a sport-tuned suspension and grippier tires. The Edge gets 21 city and 28 highway mpg with its base setup, but the ST model drops a bit more to 19/25 mpg.

Venza vs. Edge: Interior quality and space

For interior space, the 2022 Ford Edge is the clear winner. According to KBB, the base trim interior is plain but has tons of legroom. Upper trims, however, improve on everything just a bit. More expensive models get leather seats, satin accents, and ambient lighting. As for cargo space, the midsize SUV has 73.4 cubic feet inside when all the seats are folded down.

Contrarily, the 2022 Toyota Venza is comparable to the interior of its luxury cousin, the Lexus RX 450H. Although the two don’t look the same, it says a lot about the interior of the Venza. The base model has a 60/40 split-folding bench seat for rear passengers. Next, the cargo space falls slightly short, only 28.8 cubic feet. KBB noted that the more tiny rear hatch opening isn’t the best, either.

Venza vs. Edge: Technology and features

The 2022 Toyota Venza is a well-equipped midsize SUV even in its base form. It has an 8-way power driver’s seat, a 6-speaker audio system, and an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and Amazon Alexa. All models come with the Safety Sense 2.0 suite of safety features along with other safety features like a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert.

The 2022 Ford Edge isn’t too much different from its rival. It still comes with 18-inch wheels, automatic climate control, and similar 60/40 split rear seats in its base form. However, its infotainment screen is much larger, at 12-inches. It also sits vertically on the front dash, similar to a Tesla setup we’ve grown familiar with. Included features for the infotainment are Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, SiriusXM, Wi-Fi capability, and a 6-speaker audio system. Like Toyota Safety Sense, each Ford Edge comes with Ford Co-Pilot360, the automaker’s suite of safety features. The suite includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, pre-collision assist, and a backup camera.

Which of the two midsize SUVs costs more money? While both are reasonably priced options, one of them is the more affordable of the two. However, if you decide to go with the upper trims, the Ford Edge can get a lot more expensive than its competitor. The 2022 Toyota Venza starts cheaper, and even in its most expensive form, barely reaches above $40,000.

2022 Toyota Venza vs. 2022 Ford Edge: Which midsize SUV is right for you?

Is the 2022 Toyota Venza or the 2022 Ford Edge the better midsize SUV for you? Advantages for the Venza include fuel economy and interior quality. However, the Edge wins in categories like performance and interior space. Both models provide similar technology, features, and safety features, and there isn’t a huge price disparity between them. The more expensive Edge models are performance-based, so opt for the bottom trims if that doesn’t interest you. Either one of these two models is an excellent choice for those shopping for a midsize SUV.
