Rivian’s historic initial public offering has shocked the world. The historic electric truck may be even more impactful than consumers currently realize. Are electric adventure vehicles the next big thing?

The 2022 Rivian R1T is the most exciting truck of the year

The 2022 Rivian R1T is the first electric vehicle from the American startup electric vehicle company Rivian. The Amazon-backed company seems to be on the precipice of greatness. If Ford and Amazon’s investment in the company is any indication of success, the startup has a bright future… and a ton of capital.

Rivian’s tremendous IPO gives the company some much-needed wiggle room to freely produce vehicles without the burden of financial distress. Rivian seems to be the coolest new kid in class, and it’s all thanks to how the company has positioned the R1T.

The Rivian R1T happens to be the first-ever mass-produced electric truck sold in American history. Despite the fact that it is virtually inaccessible for most consumers, Rivian beat seasoned automakers to the punch, and that means something. The R1T is competing against electric trucks like the Tesla Cybertruck and Ford F-150 Lightning. Its sky-high price ($68,000+) puts it at a disadvantage in terms of sales, but the truck seems unmatched when it comes to capabilities.

According to Car and Driver, the electric pickup makes a whopping 800 horsepower using its quad-motor system. It can go from 0-60 miles per hour in a mind-blowing three seconds. The electric pickup has more horses than a Hellcat-powered TRX, but that’s just one of its many tricks.

The 2022 Rivian R1T is born to be wild

The true appeal of the Rivian R1T is its ability to move freely through the outdoors, thanks to the benefits of its powerful electric motors. Electric vehicles have advantages off-road where gas-powered vehicles struggle and stall. The truck’s 800 horses don’t hurt when trying to climb a steep hill or drive over an obstacle.

The 2022 Rivian R1T has been marketed as an adventure truck. Its true purpose is even in the names of its trim levels. The R1T comes standard as an “Explore” trim, or buyers can go for the more expensive “Adventure” trim. If the trim level names weren’t enough of a hint about the truck’s true purpose, its packages are a dead giveaway.

The R1T offers several packages to consumers that include camper additions like an interior camping kitchen. The R1T is made for exploring the great outdoors and setting up camp wherever, whenever.

The 2022 Rivian R1T could be the forefather of a new generation of vehicles. The upcoming Subaru Solterra may expand the electric adventure vehicle subclass because of Subaru’s off-roading legacy. The Solterra has an X-Mode, so off-roading capability wouldn’t be a huge surprise.

The Rivian R1T is the first electric adventure truck, but it won’t be the last. Engineers and automakers have realized the increased off-roading capabilities that EVs possess, and soon consumers will soon. The R1T opens up a whole world of possibilities for the future of the automotive industry. The electric truck is proving that vehicles don’t have to be gas-powered to be powerful, capable, and ready to travel off the beaten path.
