We have a perplexing story about the GMC Sierra 1500 today. The Sierra 1500 is a luxurious option. It’s supposed to include all of the creature comforts to be more enticing than the Ford F-150. However, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is missing one important option.

The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 doesn’t have height-adjustable pedals. If your legs are too short to reach them or you’re too tall to comfortable hit them, then you might be out of luck. You can raise them or set them back.

According to Pickup Truck Talk, General Motors removed adjustable pedals from light-duty trucks in 2019, and they were removed from the current generation of heavy-duty trucks.

Patrick Sullivan, senior manager for product and brand communications at GMC, confirmed that they aren’t coming back anytime soon. Sullivan shared that General Motors made the driving position for the 2022 GMC Sierra and other GM trucks more adjustable to make up for it.

Sullivan said, as a result, the 2022 Sierra 1500 now features class-leading crew cab front legroom as well as available 16-way power-adjustable seats and a power-adjustable steering wheel.

Are adjustable pedals important?

It depends on who you ask. The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 doesn’t seem to think so. Some automakers shared that adjustable paddles are a gimmick and that people don’t want them in their trucks.

But is that how shorter than average or really tall drivers feel? A majority of people have commented that women find adjustable pedals to be an important feature. I’m 5’1” and appreciated the adjustable pedals in the Ford F-150. Stellantis offers them as well.

For some people, not having adjustable pedals is a safety concern. Aside from worrying about an airbag hitting your face, you may have to worry about the underbelly of the dashboard breaking your legs during a collision.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that women are 73 percent more likely to be injured in a wreck. The most common place where women are injured is in the legs. Coincidence? Maybe.

What does the 2022 Sierra offer?

While you can’t adjust the pedals in the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500, there are plenty of other features to take advantage of. You can get started in the base model for about $31,200. The Sierra Denali increases the price to about $81,940!

Moving up in trim levels provides access to a heated leather steering wheel, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ventilated seats, an adaptive suspension, heated seats in the second row, wireless charging, head-up display, and more.

Standard safety features include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot monitoring, and rear-cross traffic alert.

The Sierra has plenty of bells and whistles for comfort, convenience, and safety. The adaptive suspension system even provides a smoother ride. Plus, you can access GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving tech.

We aren’t calling it a bad or uncomfortable truck. But perhaps it could be improved overall with the addition of adjustable pedals. However, GM isn’t planning on bringing them back anytime soon.
