The 2022 Ford Expedition and 2022 Toyota Sequoia have plenty of space inside for passengers and cargo. Each one has three rows of seats and plenty of luxurious amenities. Forget about all those extras for a second, the most important thing is how much cargo and how many people these vehicles can get from one place to another. Even more importantly, when passengers are in the three rows of seats, which vehicle will be more comfortable? Here’s the 2022 Ford Expedition vs. the 2022 Toyota Sequoia: which has more passenger and cargo space?

The 2022 Ford Expedition is updated to compete with the new generation of large SUVs. It’s even added the Timberline off-road-focused trim level to the lineup for the new model year. So how big is it, exactly? The 2021 Ford Expedition is 210″ long by 80″ wide by 76-77″ high. The new 2022 Expedition’s dimensions are not yet available, but they’re likely very close or the same as the 2021 model year. To make it a bit easier, the Expedition is 17.5 feet long and 6.75 feet wide. That’s a long SUV with a lot of space. How much interior cargo space does that actually translate into?

The 2022 Ford Expedition offers 20.9 cubic feet behind its third-row seats, 63.6 cubic feet behind its second row, and 104.6 cubic feet behind its first. To make each of these possible, both the second and third row of seats fold down completely flat into the floor. It also comes standard with the Cargo Management System to help you organize anything from groceries to sports equipment. The Expedition MAX, the longer version of the vehicle, adds another 16.9 cubic feet of storage. That totals at 121.5 cubic feet when all rear seats are folded flat. The 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline is also capable of towing up to 9,200 pounds when equipped with the Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package.

The 2022 Toyota Sequoia is getting very few changes for the new model year. It is due for a complete refresh in 2023 and could take on similar new attributes to the 2022 Toyota Tundra. The 2022 Sequoia has six trim levels, SR5, TRD Sport, Limited, Nightshade Special Edition, Platinum, and TRD Pro. Each of them has identical cargo-carrying capability and space. It measures 205.1″ long, 79.9″ wide, and 77″ high. This is nearly identical to the Expedition exterior dimensions, with the most notable difference being the five fewer inches in length. Does that translate into less cargo space than Ford’s SUV?

The Sequoia offers 18.9 cubic feet of space behind its third-row seats, 66.6 behind its second row, and 120.1 cubic feet behind the first row seats. There is no longer version of the Sequoia as with the Expedition MAX, so these measurements are all there is. The Expedition MAX has more cargo space from all rows of seats than the Toyota Sequoia. However, the standard Expedition only has more room behind the third row than the Sequoia. The Toyota Sequoia provides more cargo space behind its first and second rows with all seats folded down than the standard Ford Expedition.

The interior of the new Ford Expedition has three rows of seats, all of which can be upgraded to be more luxurious. Heated and ventilated captain’s chairs, third-row power reclining seats, rear-seat entertainment with Amazon Fire TV, and USB ports in all three rows can be added with the proper upgrades. The 2022 Ford Expedition interior dimensions for passengers are unavailable from Ford. The 2021 dimensions are likely the same or very close. For 2021, the dimensions are as follows:

First row:

  • Headroom – 42 inches
  • Legroom – 43.9 inches
  • Shoulder room – 64.9 inches

Second row

  • Headroom – 40 inches
  • Legroom – 41.5 inches
  • Shoulder room – 64.8 inches

Third row:

  • Headroom – 37.3 inches
  • Legroom – 36.1 inches
  • Shoulder room – 64.2 inches

The Toyota Sequoia also provides three rows of seating for passengers. The rear seating can receive upgrades to include second-row climate control, a rear-seat Blue-ray disc entertainment system, and if equipped properly, it can seat eight instead of seven passengers. In the TRD Sport trim, a leather-trimmed 40/20/40 split, sliding, reclining, fold-flat second-row seat with one-touch access to the third row is included. The 2022 Toyota Sequoia interior passenger dimensions are as follows:

First row:

  • Headroom – 34.8 inches
  • Legroom – 42.5 inches
  • Shoulder room – 66.4 inches

Second row:

  • Headroom – 34.9 inches
  • Legroom – 40.9 inches
  • Shoulder room – 65.6 inches

Third row:

  • Headroom – 34.5 inches
  • Legroom – 35.3 inches
  • Shoulder room – 65.7 inches

Both the 2022 Ford Expedition and 2022 Toyota Sequoia provide an ample amount of room for both passengers and cargo. They’re spacious and luxurious enough to make sure everyone, and your cargo, is comfortable. The Expedition MAX has the most cargo space, but the Sequoia beats the standard Expedition. Passenger space is very close between the two, but the Expedition wins in just about every aspect.
