Yes, if you want an Expedition that is better equipped for off-roading, then the 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline is the perfect fit. It will take you further into the woods than other models. But prepare your wallet.

While the 2021 Ford Expedition starts at about $50,959, it’s a little shocking but not bad. According to Ford Authority, the 2022 Expedition Timberline is expected to start at around $66,690. The $1,695 destination fee increases the price to about $68,385. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer begins at around $$87,845.

The luxury-focused Expedition Limited trim that includes four-wheel drive will start at around $68,475. If this is correct, then the Limited has a $1,555 increase over the current 2021 model. This makes the Limited only $90 more than the FWD Timberline time.

What comes with the Expedition Timberline?

The 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline includes the high-output 3.5-liter V6 engine with 440 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer comes with a 6.4-liter V8 engine with 471 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque.

The Expedition Timberline has 10.6 inches of ground clearance. Ford enjoys pointing out that it sits 0.6-inches above the Jeep Wagoneer. However, the Wagoneer is more on the Cadillac Escalade’s level in terms of luxury.

Off-roading upgrades for the Ford Expedition Timberline include a retuned suspension, steel skid plates from the F-150 Raptor, a two-speed transfer case, and a limited-slip rear differential. It sits on 33-inch all-terrain tires.

It includes seven driving modes along with the Trail Turn Assist feature from the Bronco. The system uses the brakes to lock the inside rear wheel, enabling tight turns on loose surfaces.

Does the Expedition Timberline have luxury features?

The 2022 Ford Expedition has a unique look that includes orange accents, black wheels, and new bumper shapes. You’ll notice the orange stripe on the front bumper that’s paired with two bright orange tow hooks.

For 2022, the interior of the Expedition gained a refresh. The Timberline is available with a Deep Cyprus Green color and ActiveX seating. Soft-touch materials, including leather, cover the dash and other surfaces.

The Expedition gained the 15.5-inch infotainment touchscreen from the Ford Mustang Mach-E. The new Ford Sync4A system powers it. The optional Bang & Olufsen Unleashed audio system includes 22 speakers, which is the most in the class.

The Jeep Grand Wagoneer is also quite grand. The elegant features include tons of leather and genuine wood accents. It has customizable ambient lightning and a rear-seat monitoring system that displays a video feed on the central touchscreen.

There’s a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a 12.0-inch center touchscreen, a 10.3-inch touchscreen for the HVAC controls, and another 10.3-inch touchscreen for the front seat passenger.

The Ford Expedition Timberline may not be as luxurious or filled with screens as the Wagoneer, but it still provides plenty of off-roading capabilities and luxury refinement. You can save thousands with it.
