There have been a few different 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 commercials where the truck owner seems to be obsessed with their new Multi-Flex tailgate. Even if you aren’t into trucks, it’s been hard to miss. 

One of our favorite commercials features a tabby cat, named Walter. Walter serves as the man’s best friend, going on a series of outdoorsy adventures with him. But as Walter fetches a stick, he’s ignored by his owner as he marvels over the Multi-Flex tailgate. Does this tailgate really deserve more attention than adventure cat Walter? 

What can the Silverado Multi-Flex tailgate do? 

The 2022 Chevy Silverado Multi-Flex tailgate is available on 1500, 2500 HD, and 3500 HD trucks. It has the goal of helping people worker smarter, not harder. That’s why it provides increased tailgate and bed usage with six unique functions. 

First of all, it’s a power tailgate, and its functions can be activated with the keyfob, tailgate-mounted buttons, or from the instrument panel. Easily open and close the tailgate with the touch of a button. 

The Multi-Flex tailgate can be transformed into a step for easy access. The inner gate folds down into a large step and can hold up to 375 lbs. It does include a handle on the side for balance. 

Also, the inner gate provides a standing desk space. It will support your laptop, blueprints, and other materials. It can be used to easily load a second layer of items too. The primary gate folds down like a traditional tailgate and includes a primary gate load stop. This prevents longer items from sliding out of the bed. 

Plus, there is a sound system integrated into the tailgate so you can listen to music and there’s an integrated sensor to prevent it from falling on a ball or hitch. 

You can add the Multi-Flex tailgate to your truck for about $450. That’s not a bad price for all of its added functions and convenience features. The 2022 Chevy Silverado work truck is expected to begin at about $31,000. 

What else is cool about the 2022 Silverado? 

The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 has plenty of new features for Walter the cat to enjoy. Each trim has a slightly restyled front end for a more prominent stance and more confident look. The High country model can now be equipped with GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving tech too. 

You’ll find a new 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the interior along with a massive 12.3-inch digital cluster display. The systems connect with Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Google-powered voice assistance, and Amazon Alexa. 

If Walter and his human want to go on more adventures, they can use the new Chevy Silverado ZR2 trim. It has multimatic spool-valve dampers, electronic-locking front, and rear differentials, a 2.0-inch factory lifted suspension, and a Terrain Mode for rock crawling. 

To answer the original question, the 2022 Chevy Silverado brags about the Multi-Flex tailgate because it can do a lot! But there are plenty of other great features to brag about too.
