The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro brought the historic muscle car namesake back from the dead for its fifth generation. Like the fifth-gen Mustang, it worked in familiar retro styling and big V8 power. However, even as a more affordable used muscle car option, it has one glaring fault: visibility. Is a 2010 Chevy Camaro a good car?

The 2010 Chevy Camaro is a good car for used muscle car shoppers who want versatility comparable to a Ford Mustang. For instance, the fifth-gen Chevy model packs a 426-horsepower 6.2L V8 in the SS trim and an optional six-speed manual transmission for spirited shifting.

Moreover, the Chevy sports car’s 2010 iteration is the fastest muscle car of the model year. According to Car and Driver’s testing, the Camaro SS hit 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds with the six-speed automatic transmission and around 0.2 seconds slower with the manual. However, the pre-Coyote Ford Mustang GT and brutish Dodge Challenger SRT8 return times of about 5.1 and 4.8 seconds, respectively. 

The Camaro’s powerful V8 engine, agile Zeta platform underpinnings, and available drop-top convertible variant make it a good option for performance bargain hunters. Unsurprisingly, the Chevy model earned a top spot on U.S. New’s best used cars under $10,000 list.

What’s wrong with the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro?

Unfortunately, the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro’s greatest foible is its lack of visibility. Chunky pillars, a high-riding dash, and the Chevy sports car’s rear-end proportions create restricted visibility. Moreover, the rear visibility is poor at best, which could be irritating or dangerous in some driving situations.  

In addition to restricted rear visibility, the Camaro’s back seat is too snug for full-size adults. Like the Ford Mustang, the Camaro is a 2+2 platform with two rear seats. However, the seats are cramped compared to the larger Dodge Challenger.

For instance, the Zeta platform on the Camaro boasts independent rear suspension, a much more refined application than the comparable-aged S197 Ford Mustang.
