The verdict is in, and the Chevrolet Tahoe has a few areas where improvements could be made. This beast of an SUV is a great option for towing trailers and hauling the entire family around. However, before making your purchase see two areas where the 2023 Chevy Tahoe falls short.

Is the 2023 Chevy Tahoe worth buying?

Yes, the 2023 Chevy Tahoe is an excellent option to consider. It’s a well-rounded SUV with plenty of space and power to offer families. Plus, it has easy-to-use tech and an incredibly smooth ride thanks to the magnetic dampers and adaptive air suspension.

But not everything is peachy. According to AutoBlog, the Tahoe has a weak base engine. It has an MSRP of $52,000 and comes with a 5.3-liter V8 engine with 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. The Jeep Wagoneer’s standard engine has 391 hp, and Ford Expedition starts with 380 hp.

While the Tahoe has a lesser base engine than its rivals, it also has a weaker fuel economy. The Tahoe gets an EPA-estimated 16 mpg in the city and up to 20 mpg on the highway with the base engine.

The second area where the Tahoe falls short is in terms of comfort. The AutoBlog team shared that the seats are flat but didn’t go into further detail.

But Edmunds agrees and shared that the front and rear seats are uncomfortable. They’re hard, unsupportive, and lack the padding necessary for comfortable long drives.

What do critics like about the Tahoe?

If you need more power with the 2023 Chevy Tahoe, you can upgrade to a more powerful option. The 6.2-lite V8 engine cranks out 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Plus, the 3.0-liter inline-six turbo diesel engine provides 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.

When properly equipped, the Tahoe can tow up to 8,400 lbs, while the Expedition can tow up to 6,000 lbs. But the Expedition MAX can tow up to 9,300 lbs. Also, the Tahoe can carry a payload of up to 1,927 lbs.

You can access up to 25.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats of the Tahoe and up to 122.9 cubes total. There is plenty of space for passengers in each row, and the door pockets are pretty deep.

The Tahoe Z71 off-roading trim adds robust off-roading capabilities to help families tackle the wild. The Z71 package adds tow hooks, a skid plate, 20-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, a two-speed transfer case, improved approach and departure angles, and a heavy-duty air filter.

2023 Tahoe: What’s new?

The 2023 Chevy Tahoe is primarily a carryover model. It just got refreshed for 2021, so it still feels new and modern. You can spice it up with new shades of Silver, Grey, and Red paint this year.

Also, the General Motors Super-Cruise hands-free driving tech will be available with the High Country and Premier trims. Plus, adaptive cruise control is now standard with the High Country trim.

While the base engine could use a little extra muscle, you can easily upgrade to a more powerful option. Plus, the diesel engine will help you save fuel. The Tahoe may have firm seats, but you might be able to fix that issue with seat covers.

Aside from those two potential drawbacks, the Tahoe is a robust SUV to consider with a high towing capacity, plenty of cargo space, and even off-roading upgrades.
