A 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is a sought-after bit of Motor Americana. So much so that the President of the United States himself, Joe Biden, has one in his car collection. Of course, there’s more to it than just a man and his beautiful classic car; President Biden’s Corvette doesn’t get much road time.

What kind of classic car does Joe Biden own?

U.S. President Joe Biden owns a dark green 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, a favorite among classic Corvette enthusiasts. The striking second-generation (C2) model features a brown leather interior and an eager four-speed manual transmission.

According to Roger’s Corvette Center, the close-ratio four-speed manual was the most common of the optional transmission upgrades, far outselling the two-speed Powerglide automatic. Moreover, President Joe Biden’s verdant ‘Vette packs a 327-cubic inch L79 V8 with a horsepower rating of 350, per the Detroit Free Press. Not bad for a 56-year-old sports car.

The 80-year-old U.S. President acquired the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray as a gift when it was brand new in 1967. The green machine was a present from his father, Joseph Biden Sr., to celebrate his autumn marriage to his first wife, the late Neilia Hunter Biden.

Since 1967, President Biden has kept the Stingray in good shape, despite the lack of road time the car gets while he’s in the White House. Moreover, President Biden’s sons, Hunter and Beau Biden, had the 327 V8 in the car professionally rebuilt as a Christmas gift to their father.

The 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is one of the last models from the C2 generation of the iconic sports car. While it’s not as collectible as the famed split-window model from the same generation, the ‘67 Stingray is still a desirable Corvette model.

Furthermore, President Biden’s personal “Plastic Fantastic” achieved fame in early 2023 when authorities reported a collection of classified documents near the Stingray in Biden’s Delaware home. The garage was a fitting home for the classic Chevy sports car, not so much sensitive materials.

How much is Joe Biden’s Corvette?

Joe Biden’s 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is worth well over $100,000. According to Classic.com, the 1967 models have an average value of $125,187, with the top sale on record bringing in $2.7 million.

Does Joe Biden still drive?

Despite being in running and driving condition mechanically, President Joe Biden doesn’t get to drive his cars very much. The United States Secret Service provides a security detail to every current and former U.S. president, which means a no-driving rule for commanders-in-chief.

As a result, President Biden’s Corvette is more of a static piece than a sun-soaked road tripper. Of course, some circumstances permit him to drive his beloved Corvette, like showing it off on “Jay Leno’s Garage.”
