Do people buy the best version of the 2022 Toyota Sequoia? One trim level is more popular than all the others. Every version of the Toyota SUV is a viable option, but some are better than others. Most experts say the best Sequoia trim level is the most basic. Most experts recommend the base model 2022 Toyota Sequoia SR5 trim, which means the full-size SUV is better cheaper.

According to Edmunds, the TRD Sport model is the most popular 2022 Toyota Sequoia trim. Out of six available options, the second cheapest is the one people usually buy. In its most affordable form, the Sequoia SR5 costs $52,095. However, opting for the TRD Sport trim costs $54,810. What makes the TRD Sport more popular than the base model?

Buying the Sequoia TRD Sport doesn’t add new features. Instead, it upgrades the suspension and offers unique exterior trim design changes to enhance the overall look of the full-size SUV. More specifically, the TRD Sport has 20-inch TRD Sport wheels, black exterior trim, black badges, and a black roof rack. Next, Sport-tuned Bilstein dampers and stiffer anti-roll bars improve handling and safety for off-roading. Finally, the Sequoia TRD Sport is the first trim level to unlock optional second-row captain’s chairs.

Buying the best version of the 2022 Toyota Sequoia is easy. Instead of opting for the most popular trim, that’s also more expensive, experts like the cheapest model the best. First, Edmunds says to get the SR5 along with the Premium package, which together offers the most desirable features like leather upholstery, heated front seats, and audio upgrades. Next, upper trims require captain’s chairs, which downgrades the seating capacity from eight to seven.

On the other hand, Car and Driver recommend the same SR5 base model. C/D says the Sequoia’s top trims have a price high enough to land you with a top-of-the-line Chevy Tahoe or GMC Yukon. However, the SR5 is well-equipped for the price. It comes with driver assists that often cost extra with rivals. Next, it seats eight, four-wheel drive is $3,255, and the available Premium package. Unlike Edmunds, C/D does not recommend buying the Premium package, even though its contents are plentiful. The publication says the price isn’t worth the value it provides.

Why is the Sequoia better cheaper?

Fortunately, the expensive full-size SUV segment has the 2022 Toyota Sequoia. While many alternatives don’t offer excellent features in their lowest trims, the Sequoia does. It’s better cheaper because every version comes equipped with fantastic features. In addition, the 5.7-liter V8 engine produces 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque. More importantly, the powerful engine is standard for every trim level in the lineup.

Next, every Sequoia comes with a suite of standard safety features and driver aids. This includes a pre-collision system, dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure warning, a lane keeping system, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and trailer sway control. For many competitors, features like these are only found in upper trims or within an optional package.

In addition, the desirable features are plentiful. For just over $50K, the 2022 Toyota Sequoia SR5 has LED headlights and foglights, heated side mirrors, a sunroof, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. More exciting features like a touchscreen infotainment system, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and an eight-speaker audio system are also standard.

With all of these features and more, buyers get added value from the lower trim. Furthermore, the 2022 Toyota Sequoia SR5 beats the competition in many ways regarding value. Finding your favorite features with the most affordable, basic model is rare, so enjoy it.
