Crossovers are the most popular type of vehicle in the United States, but which ones are redesigned or new for the 2022 model year? If you’re shopping for a new crossover, you’ll probably want the most up-to-date model you can find. These models have either gotten a complete overhaul or are brand new in 2022. They’re also highly rated models that we can’t recommend enough.

2022 crossovers: The Lexus NX is a redesigned compact crossover SUV

Toyota’s luxury brand is introducing its second generation of NX models for 2022. The NX gets a new cabin adding style, space, and a brand new infotainment system. The four different available engines include hybrid and plug-in hybrid options to ensure owners can save on gas. The NX also gained some new standard features and technology for 2022.

The 2022 Lexus NX starts at $39,025 for the base model NX250. The model tops out much higher, costing $57,975 for the highest trim, the NX450h+ F Sport. The F Sport variant is available on two different models, which also include the NX350. The NX350 F Sport gets the best performance with its 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 275 horsepower.

There are plenty of new crossovers coming in 2022

There’s a long list of new crossovers introduced by different automakers for the 2022 model year. If you don’t notice on your own, we’ll tell you upfront that fully electric models are a bit of a theme. Since the EV market is beginning to soar, many are taking this opportunity to get the most popular segment covered early. These crossover SUVs will all be available for the first time in 2022.

  • Chevrolet Bolt EUV
  • Kia EV6
  • Nissan Ariya
  • Toyota Corolla Cross
  • Volvo C40 Recharge

Redesigned or new? The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV is a new stretched out hatchback

2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV

Chevrolet took the Bolt EV hatchback and gave it more significant crossover proportions. The Bolt EUV gets additional legroom for passengers but doesn’t end up with any more cargo space. Prioritizing passengers is historically a successful move for automakers with crossover SUVs. Most potential buyers want a small SUV-like vehicle with space, and this one will be just that.

Redesigned or new? The 2022 Nissan Ariya is a brand new electric crossover

Built on a dedicated EV platform developed by The Alliance, the Ariya got delayed a bit. Due to the semiconductor chip shortage, production is slow, and the release date is unknown. The Nissan Ariya crossover is said to have available front- and all-wheel drive versions. In addition, it will have multiple battery pack sizes, including a long-range battery capable of a 300-mile driving range.

2022 crossovers: The Toyota Corolla Cross shares its name, and its underpinnings

The Corolla Cross is the newest edition to the Toyota lineup, and sharing a name gives it bonus points already. Using the Corolla name for the new crossover provides the vehicle with the attention the automaker wants it to get early and fast. Toyota’s latest offering is the first new crossover on the list that isn’t electric. It comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with no other options. The interior is everything you’d expect of a well-equipped Toyota vehicle, not unlike its namesake.

2022 crossovers: The Kia EV6 is Kia’s first fully electric vehicle

The Kia EV6 shares the E-GMP platform with the Hyundai Ioniq 5. It will come with standard and extended range battery packs as well as rear- and all-wheel drive. The single and dual motor availability gives consumers a wide range of options to choose how much or how little to spend on this crossover. The Kia EV6 GT with the long-range battery pack and dual motor powertrain produces 577 horsepower.

Volvo C40 Recharge: everyone remembers their first

The C40 Recharge is Volvo’s first entry into the electric vehicle market. This new crossover SUV shares its styling with the standard Volvo XC40 model. Surprisingly, this Volvo can move with its standard dual motors and AWD. Volvo claims the electric crossover can reach 60 mph from 0 in just 4.5 seconds. The estimated 210 miles of driving range is not the strongest, but Volvo’s first attempt.

As J.D. Power tells us, the Crossover segment is getting rather electric for the new model year. For 2022, we’re only getting one major redesign with crossovers but plenty of new models. The majority of the models are entirely electric, and some are the automaker’s first-ever EV options. Most of the official release dates are still unknown, but each of these crossovers will be available for the 2022 model year.
