Toyota’s base model Land Cruiser will be the best daily driver option for drivers that aren’t as likely to hit trails and tackle tough off-roading obstacles. The Land Cruiser configuration (what a name) has the potential to be the most popular. It will have more off-roading chops than the base model. Toyota’s 1958 base model Land Cruisers have standard multi-terrain select, crawl control, and a rear locking differential.

Land Cruisers (the mid-tier models) come standard with a multi-terrain monitor and an electronic disconnecting front anti-roll bar. Toyota Land Cruiser First Editions add a front skid plate to the off-road SUV. The First Edition trim also features standard rock rails and a roof rack. If you want the best factory off-road iteration of the new Land Cruiser, the First Edition is the way to go.

It’s unclear whether or not Toyota will offer more Land Cruiser configurations later on, but don’t be surprised if we get a TRD trim announcement in the near future. Toyota’s TRD models tend to be the most capable. Overall, Toyota’s different Land Cruiser grades should satisfy their target audience, as the Japanese brand is providing plenty of off-roading equipment as standard and available features.

Should you get a new Toyota Land Cruiser?

Toyota’s new Land Cruiser model is targeted toward fans of the old, faithful SUV. For better or worse, it’s a huge change from the original model. It has a standard hybrid powertrain system, and it’s smaller than its predecessor. The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser is best for off-roading enthusiasts looking for a new SUV that embodies the spirit of a legendary off-roading nameplate.

Much like Ford’s updated Bronco model, it’ll have plenty of hype surrounding its name. The question is, can it deliver, or are expectations already too high?
