It’s 2024; where’s the new Toyota Tacoma? We’ve been waiting for this new midsize truck for several months, only to be disappointed as the calendar turned to the new year. Initially, Toyota promised the all-new Tacoma would be available by the end of 2023, but that time has come and gone. Why isn’t this Toyota midsize truck available for sale yet? Let’s find out.

Why isn’t the 2024 Toyota Tacoma available at dealers?

As soon as it arrives, this new generation Toyota midsize truck will likely sell out from most dealers. One of the most hotly anticipated vehicles of the year isn’t available yet, for one small reason.

As The Fast Lane Trucks tells us, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma’s final EPA fuel efficiency certification is incomplete. Vehicles without this EPA certification cannot ship to dealers or customers. Completed versions of the new Tacoma sit in Mexico, ready to be shipped northward, but without this EPA certification, these trucks can’t be delivered to Toyota dealerships.

This Green 2024 Toyota Tacoma is playing on some tough trails.

What makes the new Tacoma a hotly anticipated truck?

The new 2024 Toyota Tacoma is a fully redesigned midsize pickup. It should continue to lead the class in sales. The body-on-frame TNGA- platform makes the new Tacoma more capable and powerful than ever. Unlike other trucks that have moved away from a manual transmission offering, the Tacoma continues to include this feature as one of its many benefits.

Unlike its predecessor, the new Tacoma has a trio of 4-cylinder engines across the many trims. The base SR trim uses a 2.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that delivers 228 horsepower. This engine pairs with either an 8-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission.

Once shoppers step above the base SR model, other powertrains are available. The iForce version takes the same engine from the SR and tunes it to 278 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque for some strong driving. The iForce Max adds a hybrid electric motor between the engine and transmission to give this midsize truck 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque.

New qualities give the 2024 Toyota Tacoma an edge

This new generation Tacoma brings a few goodies we haven’t seen in other trucks. Toyota adds two new Tacoma trims for 2024: TRD PreRunner and Trailhunter. Two rear suspensions are available for this pickup based on the trim chosen. The TRD also has a special set of seats to improve driving comfort on the trails.

Hopefully, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma will pass the EPA certification soon, opening the doors for this truck to head to dealerships for customers to enjoy.
