One of the most exciting upcoming EVs is getting plenty of eyeballs in a summer blockbuster. Barbie has earned over a billion dollars at the box office. Millions of viewers worldwide are enjoying the film, and thanks to some brilliant product placement, viewers are also getting a glimpse of Chevrolet’s upcoming electric SUV, the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV.

What SUV is in the Barbie film?

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV SS is the exciting electric vehicle featured in 2023’s Barbie film. Why was this a genius move by Chevrolet? General Motors is determined to be a major name in the electric vehicle space. Thus far, it has experienced some success with the Bolt EV nameplate.

Chevrolet recently announced the discontinuation of the Bolt EV, only to announce its rebirth. The Chevy Bolt EV struggled with reliability issues but offered plenty of value in terms of affordability and driving range.

Since SUVs are the best-selling vehicles in the industry, the upcoming Blazer EV has a great chance of becoming the ringer the American brand needs in the electric vehicle space. So, putting it in front of millions of viewers via one of the biggest box office successes of the year was brilliant. Furthermore, in the film, the vehicle is portrayed as quick, capable, and futuristic.

Whether you happily bought tickets for Barbie or were forced to see it by your significant other, you got a glimpse of what will be one of the most impactful new EVs. The question is, what are its specs, and will anyone buy the new electric SUV?

What we know about the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV thus far

The Chevy Blazer EV is a midsize electric SUV. Chevy claims it will be available in the summer of 2023, so it should hit dealerships very soon. Its 2LT base model has a starting MSRP of $56,715 before taxes and additional fees.

If the 2024 Blazer EV 2LT is eligible for the federal electric vehicle tax incentive, it could start as low as $49,215. According to GM, some Blazer EV models get an estimated 320 miles of driving range. This wouldn’t be far-fetched based on recent General Motors EV battery ranges, especially for a larger model. Chevy is offering an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty on the battery.

Overall the Chevy Blazer EV seems like a solid offering from the American brand. Knowing GM, it’ll produce several variations on the Blazer EV across its portfolio of brands using the same platform. The SS configuration is undoubtedly the most exciting trim thus far, but it’s likely to have a high starting price.

The electric vehicle space is currently dominated by Tesla thanks to the Model 3 and Model Y. Additionally, Tesla’s greatest competition this year is Hyundai Motor Company, not General Motors.

Overall, consumers want a reliable GM EV that has decent pricing and great driving range. If Chevy’s Blazer EV can avoid major mechanical issues like battery overheating, the brand could have a hit on its hands. More electric vehicles mean a more competitive market, which is a huge win for consumers.
