The Volvo brand is going electric with its models with hybrids, plug-in variants, and fully electric versions. Which models are best-sellers and which aren’t doing quite as well? Here we look at Volvo vehicles available and decide which one is the clear winner when it comes to the most year-to-date sales and try to determine what makes it so popular among consumers.

Year-to-date sales for Volvo

According to GoodCarBadCar, there are six Volvo models with a range of sales figures on its list. Starting with the 60-Series model, we see the year-to-date (YTD) sales are 5,061, which is about 500 more vehicles sold than the previous year. That’s an increase of 11.62%.

The Volvo 90-Series didn’t do quite as well as the 60-Series, though. For the YTD figures, it only brought in 1,374 sales. It did outsell last year’s model, though, by approximately 150 vehicles, which is actually a 12.53% increase.

When it comes to the Volvo C40 model, though, sales figures were more on its side. It managed a total of 5,097 sales, which barely beats out the 60-Series model. Last year’s YTD figures were 2,133, which gives this year’s model a 138.96% increase over 2022’s version.

While these seem like respectable sales figures, they’re not the highest-selling models for the brand.

Which models stand out in sales?

The top three best-selling models for Volvo are the XC40, XC60, and the XC90. When you look at the YTD sales for the XC40 model, you see that it sold 14,593 units for 2023, which is almost five thousand more than last year. For July alone it sold 2,443 vehicles, which is an increase of 155.81% over 2022.

The XC90 saw 21,417 YTD sales, which is almost two thousand more than last year. Current sales for this model in July are 3,719. That’s almost a thousand more than 2022 for the same month.

Overall, though, the best-selling model for Volvo is the XC60. Its YTD sales added up to 22,993 units sold. In 2022, it sold 19,908 models. For July alone, though, it brought in 3,161 sales, which is a little over 500 units less than the XC90 version.

Is the XC60 dominating sales at this time? With the XC90 being so close, we think it’s actually a close race with the XC60 pulling ahead by a nose.

Volvo is no newbie brand to the market, especially in the SUV segment, so we’re not really surprised some of its family vehicles are doing so well. The 2023 model of the XC60 has plenty of features that make hauling a family around more enjoyable.

First, it offers a mild hybrid setup with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing a total of 247 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, according to Edmunds. With the B6, Volvo adds a supercharger, which increases output to 295 hp and 310 lb-ft.

It also comes with a plug-in hybrid variant. The B6 model offers front-wheel drive standard, while the other trims give you all-wheel drive. All versions have an eight-speed automatic transmission. As for fuel economy, it offers 26 mpg combined.

When it comes to interior space, the XC60 doesn’t disappoint. You get 63.3 cubic feet of storage total for cargo space. Plus, 38 inches of headroom and legroom for the second row of seats, which makes it perfect for most adults sitting back there. For families with smaller children, you can get built-in booster seats, which is a nice perk to have.

Volvo has a handful of good models in the market at this time. The three best-sellers for the brand are the XC40, XC60, and the XC90. The XC60 version has better YTD sales, but the XC90 isn’t that far behind.
