For consumers with large families, cars with a lot of seats and trunk space are a necessity. For this reason, most families will use a full-size SUV as their primary car. However, new SUVs are generally a little more expensive than the average vehicle.

Because of this, SUV buyers want to make sure they get a good value. A standard trim with many features is ideal. One popular SUV is the Chevrolet Suburban. It has a great track record for reliability and three powerful engine options. The current model has a nice amount of standard features, but will there be anything new for 2021? Here’s what we know thanks to Chevy’s latest press release.

Engine

The standard engine for the Suburban is a 5.3-liter V8 capable of producing 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission with electronic shift control. For 2021, it now comes equipped with Dynamic Fuel Management technology.

This allows the engine to conserve fuel without decreasing its performance. There is also a diesel option available, a first for a full-size SUV. The new 3.0-liter inline-six Duramax gives the Suburban even more power, with an output of 277 hp.

Rear-wheel drive is standard, with the option to upgrade to four-wheel drive. New for 2021 is an independent rear suspension and a completely new chassis. The Suburban has been criticized in the past for its bumpy ride quality. With the new suspension and chassis, this aspect may be drastically improved.

Interior

With a redesigned exterior comes a new cabin, as well. Cloth upholstery is standard, while the steering wheel is wrapped in leather. The driver’s seat comes with ten-way power-adjustability for maximum support. The front passenger seat is six-way adjustable.

The wheelbase was extended, which means more legroom for the second and third rows. Chevy promises that the seats can be folded down more easily. This was another common issue with the 2020 Suburban. With both rows folded down, the Suburban’s trunk space has been increased from 121.7 to 141.7 cubic feet.

Safety

The 2021 Suburban comes with a large amount of standard driver’s assistance tools. Rear parking sensors, forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, and a rear vision camera are all included. For towing, the Suburban also comes with a hitch receiver and optional hitch guidance. More safety features are available for an additional price.

The Teen Driver system is also standard on the Suburban. This feature allows parents to track their teenager’s driving performance and ensure a safe learning experience. Parents can also set speed limits or volume limits for the audio system.

Infotainment

The Suburban LS has plenty of new technology. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, allowing you to sync your phone up to the car’s infotainment system. A Wi-fi hotspot is also included, and there are many USB ports for charging your smart devices. A six-speaker stereo system and satellite/HD radio are standard.

A new available upgrade for 2021 is the rear-seat media package. In addition to the standard 10-inch touchscreen upfront, you’ll receive two 12-inch touchscreens for the second-row passengers.

Other features

This SUV has a few nice exterior design elements as well. It features front grille shutters that automatically close, making the Suburban faster and improving fuel economy. Both the tail lamps and headlights use LED bulbs for better visibility.

The 2021 Suburban isn’t released yet, so we don’t know how well it performs in a real-world setting. Still, with its expansive list of standard features, it’s already a great value. This SUV is expected to go on sale in mid-2020.
