In the South, Summer is here. Daily temperatures have crept over 80 degrees, the asphalt steams when it rains, and the grass is growing. Did y’all hear me? Summer is here, people. It’s time to start acting like it. So, with that, It’s time to turn your truck bed into a mobile swimming pool

How to turn your truck bed into a swimming pool

People have been turning truck beds into swimming pools since the time of Jesus. I can’t prove that, of course, but I’m sure it’s true. Either way, the truck bed pool is a classic bit of redneck fun that is hard to resist. It’s dumb, and it’s fun.

Now, instead of just throwing a tarp down and strapping its corners to the wheel wells, the  Summer Waves Inflatable Truck Bed Pool makes truck bed pools a bit less questionable.

How much does it cost to turn your truck bed into a pool?

According to The Drive, this small inflatable pool is currently on sale at Wal-Mart for $29.98. During the sale, you’ll spend more money filling the bed up with water than you will on the pool itself. Hell, the old-school way of lining your bed with some sort of tarp or plastic sheet isn’t any cheaper than this 66 x 62 x 21-inch inflatable pool. Unfortunately, trucks like the Ford Maverick or Hyundai Santa Cruz won’t be able to make use of the Summer Waves rig because the beds are too small. The Maverick’s bed only stretched 54.4 inches. The Hyundai Santa Cruz only stretches to 4 ft.

Are truck pools worth doing?

This is a fairly unanswerable question. The truth is, normal truck bed pools are a pain and never work all that well – still fun, though. However, the Summer Waves Inflatable Truck Bed Pool seems a bit easier, making the time investment low enough to maybe make the mobile pool worthwhile. The company says the inflatable pool is made of “puncture resistant” material, but that if you manage to poke a hole in it, it comes with a puncture repair kit.

There are probably zero practical applications for this pool. However, summertime isn’t about being practical; It’s about having fun and using your extra time for foolishness.

Enjoy the summer, y’all.
