An Alabama truck driver went on quite the bender with a bottle of tequila. He drunkenly took his semi-truck down Interstate 65 South during rush hour traffic and caused eight wrecks in a 28-mile span. Now he’s sobering up behind bars. 

Alabama truck driver causes 8 wrecks in 28 miles with tequila 

John McAdams is a former truck driver in Alabama who faces multiple charges. His sheet includes driving under the influence, leaving the scene of the accident, and murder. 

According to police officers, he aggressively drove his semi-truck along Interstate 65 South during rush hour traffic. He admitted to being fueled by tequila. 

Reportedly, the first wreck occurred at 6:45 PM at milepost 362. Then he hit a sedan twice while traveling at 85 mph.

McAdams hit a third car at 90 mph, six miles after the first accident. Then he slammed into the back of a black SUV and ran over its bumper. 

One driver saw the semi-truck advancing in his rearview mirror and changed lanes to avoid McAdams, but got rear ended. He drove for 12 more miles and could no longer operate the tractor-trailer. So, he came to a controlled stop. 

According to WBRC, police officers shared that he participated in field sobriety tests that revealed several clues of impartment. His BAC level was at .09, which is above the legal limit. 

McAdams admitted to drinking an unspecified amount of tequila and taking a nap. It’s unclear how long he was asleep. He couldn’t remember when he woke up or why he got back on the road. 

Two people were killed as a result of his actions. Other people were taken to local hospitals for treatment of minor injuries.
