The excitement around the announcement of the all-new Toyota Grand Highlander could be felt in the automotive industry. Now, that level of glee has translated into sales as the 2024 Grand Highlander is the best-selling brand-new model on the market. The SUV has a ton of competition, which means it can stand out compared to many of its closest rivals. Luckily, the vehicle has more than just its name carrying it as it’s an overall high-quality machine. This has put it on many lists of the best midsize SUVs money can buy.

Here’s why the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander is more popular than any other vehicle that had zero sales year to date last year.

Sales for the 2024 Grand Highlander are through the roof

Despite being modeled after an already popular model, the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander was a bit of a gamble. Luckily, this paid off for the automaker as the larger version of the Highlander was a success. The Toyota SUV sold 7,571 units during its latest month of sales, according to GoodCarBadCar. It has sold 23,284 units so far this year, which beats many of its more established rivals.

Many people may wonder how the sales for the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander compare to the smaller version of the SUV. Of course, they are lower as the Toyota Highlander sold 9,536 units in its last recorded month of sales. The SUV has sold 149,460 units so far this year. However, this figure is down by 18.07% compared to last year.

The Mazda CX-90 is another brand-new model, but it’s experiencing lower sales than the Toyota Grand Highlander. The CX-90 sold 3,722 units in its last reported month and 19,290 sales so far this year. Though a success, it is much less so than the Toyota SUV. Even less successful is the Toyota Crown, which sold 1,907 units last month and 14,961 units so far this year.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is another brand-new model that has found some success on the market. However, its sales are far below those of the Toyota Grand Highlander. It sold 1,239 units last month and 9,557 units for the year. While these aren’t the only new vehicle models for the year, they are among the most discussed.

The Grand Highlander offers the same performance as the smaller Toyota SUV

One reason sales for the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander are so high is that it’s basically just a larger SUV than the regular model. People loved the Toyota Highlander, but for years, many wished it was bigger. The 2024 Grand Highlander uses the same turbocharged 2.4-liter engine that makes 265 hp and has a torque of 310 lb-ft.

Like the 2023 Toyota Highlander, the larger SUV has front and all-wheel drive configurations. It also uses an eight-speed automatic transmission. Regarding fuel economy, it’s not far off from the smaller SUV as it averages 21 MPG in the city and 28 MPG on the highway. This also isn’t a slow SUV, as it only takes 7.5 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour. Because of this, it is one of the best midsize SUVs

This is one of the best midsize SUVs for space

The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander offers the same maximum seating capacity as the regular model. However, this is still a more spacious vehicle. Overall, it’s 6.5 inches longer, two inches taller, and 2.3 inches wider than the 2023 Toyota Highlander. This provides more space for everyone involved to spread out. There’s also 13.2 cubic feet more cargo storage than what the smaller model has.

Overall, there are many reasons why the sales for the Toyota Grand Highlander are higher than any other new model. Not only is it a larger option for people who need more space, but it comes in the form of an SUV the public already knows and loves. Many people consider it one of the best midsize SUVs. The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander starts at $43,070.
