Cargo thieves steal from a semi-truck stuck at railroad tracks

A semi-truck driver was just doing his job in Chicago, Illinois when he became a victim of cargo theft. The trucker was carrying a load of consumer electronics out of Chicago when he came to a stop at a railroad crossing.

As a train barreled down the tracks, the tractor-trailer became boxed in by passenger cars. Then multiple thieves exited their vehicles and started stealing packages.

They cut box seals and even got through high-security bar seals to take electronic devices. The men didn’t care that it was broad daylight out with multiple witnesses around.

The semi-truck driver protected himself by staying in his cab but managed to take photos of the thieves. In many cases, truckers aren’t allowed to carry guns to protect themselves.

According to Truckers News, cargo theft is an increasing issue in Chicago. Local thieves have learned which facilities ship valuable products that are easy to get away with. They will follow drivers on regular routes or strike overnight when trucks are parked outside certain facilities.

Drivers need to be aware and contact their dispatcher if they think they’re being followed. They should return to their facility, pull into a police station, or enter the highway to deter thieves. Also, they need to avoid areas that will force them to stop before getting on the highway.
