Full-size trucks are expensive

If you require a new full-size truck, you’d better be prepared to empty your wallet. Pickup trucks are among the most expensive vehicle types you can buy in 2022. They’re no longer basic and built for working. Instead, they’re luxury, smooth-driving models with pickup truck utility built-in. The most popular models are the Ford F-150, Ram 1500, and Chevy Silverado.

For 2022, experts like Car and Driver recommend the F-150 Lariat, roughly $18,000 more than the base model. Next, CAD recommends the Ram 1500 Rebel trim, five trims above the base model. However, the same publication found the 2022 Chevy Silverado LT to be the best bang-for-your-buck option. The LT model starts at $45,045, making it more affordable than the other two most popular full-size trucks.

The 2022 Chevy Silverado High Country is lovely but expensive

Not counting the ZR2 off-road model, High Country is the top trim available for the 2022 Silverado. This full-size truck is undoubtedly a luxury option. It even comes with exclusive features like GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving technology. However, it’s also costly. In short, the Silverado High Country costs $60,595, including destination fees, without any extras.

For 2022, Chevy’s full-size pickup truck comes with a host of safety features completely standard for all models. You can pay around $15,000 for the LT model and get the same safety features as the High Country. While the top trim is spectacular and luxurious, it isn’t enough to warrant the price. Most buyers will get the same value from the significantly more affordable model.

Why do Car and Driver recommend the 2022 Chevy Silverado LT?

There are two trim levels before the LT model in the Silverado lineup. Why don’t CAD recommend buying the most affordable options? Those on a tighter budget and tradespeople simply needing some pickup utility should still buy the Work Truck or Custom models. However, LT is where the Silverado lineup gains significant upgrades. For example, LT and higher trim levels have a redesigned, fancier interior for 2022.

Additionally, more options are available for configuration, starting with the LT model. Moreover, CAD says a crew cab and standard-length bed supply maximum cargo and passenger space. Next, the 5.3-liter V8 engine is cheaper and quicker than the optional diesel and all-around better than the standard four-cylinder. Opting for the V8 also allows buyers to select the Z71 off-road package if they’d like some extra capability.

A cheaper 2022 Chevy Silverado is the better full-size pickup truck

Whatever you need from a full-size truck, it’s available with a Silverado trim. Choosing one of the most affordable trims in the lineup is more intelligent. The 2022 Chevy Silverado LT trim level provides tremendous value through an upgraded interior, an astonishing number of customizations, and typical Silverado capability. Compared to its higher trim levels and rivals in the same segment, the Silverado LT is the one full-size pickup truck that’s actually better cheaper.
