The Toyota Tundra is Finally Receiving Updates
Finally, the Toyota Tundra is getting some updates. Now it will be more relevant against rivals such as the Ford F-150 and RAM 1500. So, let’s check out what to expect with the highly anticipated 2022 Toyota Tundra.
2022 Toyota Tundra updates
The Toyota Tundra is pretty outdated. The last time it had significant changes was back in 2008. Since then, it’s had a few new paint colors and minor changes. Meanwhile, the Ram 1500 has a total redesign in 2019, and rivals also received significant changes while the Tundra collected dust.

But 2022 will be the year that the Toyota tundra attempts to make its comeback. The 2022 Toyota Tundra will ride on an all-new truck chassis. The new platform which is called the Toyota New Architecture-F (Tenga-F). The on-frame underpinnings will provide better use of the high strength steel and other weight-saving materials.
Plus, the new Toyota Tundra is taking a look at the Ford and the RAM 1500 to move to a coil-spring suspension setup instead of its current leaf-spring build. The coil-springs will be paired with the current live axle setup and should provide a smoother ride.

Because the 2022 Toyota Tundra will be lighter, it’s safe to speculate that it will tow more. The 2020 Toyota Tundra can only carry a payload of 1,730 lb and two 10,200, which is pretty far behind the competition.
2022 Toyota Tundra power
In an interesting turn of events, the 2022 Toyota Tundra is losing its V8 engine. The pickup truck will only have V6 engines to offer. Higher-end Toyota Tundra trump options will probably have the 3.4-liter V6 engine with 416 horsepower.
The base model and lower trim options will most likely have the 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 278 HP. This is the engine that’s found in the smaller, midsize Toyota Tacoma, and we can only hope for a power upgrade of at least 300 horsepower.
Everything is going hybrid these days. This is made apparent by the Hybrid Ford F-150, Jeep Wrangler Hybrid, and more. So, it’s not that crazy to speculate about a Hybrid Toyota Tundra. The electric Toyota Venza and Hybrid Toyota Highlander may provide hybrid clues.
When will we learn more about the 2022 Toyota Tundra?
Unfortunately, updates about the refreshed 2022 Toyota Tundra could be far away. We might not hear anything new until next summer. Having to wait that long for a truck that already won’t have as much power as rivals is disappointing.
However, that will give Toyota plenty of time to learn from the Ford F-150 Hybrid’s mistakes, if it has any. But at least when it rolls out of the San Antonio factory in Texas, it will be able to hit the dealership lots by the end of 2021.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra is expected to begin around $35,000. The Toyota Tundra is one of the more expensive trucks to buy, but that’s because the base model comes loaded. It has tech, luxury, and safety features that you’ll have to spend more to get with rivals.
However, the Toyota Tundra may come out with lower-priced entry-level models with fewer bells and whistles to become more affordable to a broader range of buyers and to appeal more to work fleets.
