The BMW 2 Series premiered for the 2014 model year and was meant to replace its 1 Series predecessor. It turned out to be one of the best moves the BMW brand could make, with it quickly becoming a favorite since its debut. In fact, even years later, the 2014 BMW 2 Series is so impressive that it may just be the best way to get yourself some quick luxury at a terrific bargain price.

The 2014 BMW 2 Series – luxury doesn’t have to cost a fortune

The 2014 BMW 2 Series is one of 10 cars to make U.S. News‘ “Fast Used Cats Under $20,000” list, and even though it’s one of the oldest models on the list, it’s also one ranked as one of the best. Regardless of its 2014 model year, the 2 Series “proves that fast cars come in small packages.”

There is no sacrifice necessary with the 2014 BMW 2 Series, which offers speed, fun, and performance, without a new-car price tag. At the low end, buyers can find the 2014 BMW 2 Series for around $15,000 – a true bargain for luxury performance.

The BMW 2 Series was brand-new for the 2014 model year, offering two main engine choices and therefore, two main models. Featuring one of the best standard engines in its class, the base 2014 BMW 228i comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 240 hp. This comes paired with a manual transmission and rear-wheel drivetrain. Upgraded engines earn a 3.0-liter six-cylinder that makes an extra 80 hp. Automatic transmissions are considered optional on all trims.

While used, lower-end base models cost around $15,000, the same model with more options could easily range toward $22,000. But according to the experts, “the base 228i with a manual transmission and rear-wheel drive is not only the most affordable 2 Series, but it’s also the most enjoyable to drive, as well.” This makes the 2014 model one of the cheapest, but highest-performing BMWs you could possibly own.

Why the experts think the 2014 BMW 2 Series is a great buy

Out of the 10 used cars on U.S. News’ list, the 2014 BMW 2 Series’ expert rating is higher than most. According to the experts at U.S. News, it “is one of the purest BMWs available in terms of performance” and is “an attractive choice for those who want a spirited and engaging daily driver.” It earns an impressive overall score of 8.4/10, landing it in the No. 1 spot among 2014 Luxury Small Cars. Its top-notch performance and reliability, even with its growing age, also places it 14th on U.S. News’ Used Luxury Small Cars under $20,000 list.

What it has to offer

The small 2014 BMW 2 Series coupe “provides commendable performance” and “can slice through corners with precision and balance.” According to U.S. News, it can accelerate to 60 miles per hour in just 4.8 seconds and has a top speed of 130 miles per hour. BMW’s Driving Dynamics Control comes standard on all 2014 models, allowing drivers to select various driving modes.

Standard features on the base model include dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, and the iDrive infotainment system with a 6.5-inch display screen. Available features are nearly endless, however, so buyers may easily find models with leather seating, power-adjustable front seats, heated seats, a rearview camera, navigation paired to an 8.8-inch display screen, adaptive sport suspension, sport steering, and/or sport brakes.
