Subaru WRX Takes the Crown for Car Model With the Most Tickets (Again)
Subaru drivers, what’s the deal? For another year, the Subaru WRX is the car model with the most speeding tickets. What other makes and models made this list, and how is the WRX so good at speeding? Don’t worry, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) says Subaru’s are safe, even if the drivers like to speed.
The Subaru WRX is winning awards (but not the kind it wants)
Insurify put out the 2021 results for the car models with the most speeding tickets. Much like 2019 and 2020, the Subaru WRX took the top spot. 18.80% of WRX drivers have at least one speeding ticket on record. In the second spot is the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, with 17.72% of drivers having a ticket. Finally, third place goes to the Kia Stinger with 16.58%.
For 2020, the Volkswagen GTI and Subaru Impreza took the second and third spots. Both of those fell to the bottom of the list for this year but are still in the top 10. The rest of the vehicles on the list include the Mazda3 (16.36%), the Subaru BRZ (16.21%), and the Scion FR-S (16.01%).
The only truck on the list is the GMC C1500 (15.31%), followed by the GTI (14.95%), Impreza (14.81%), and the Hyundai Veloster (14.65%). The national average is 9.59%, which means these drivers have been speeding along.
The Subaru WRX won this honor for the third year
Insurify surveyed over 393 car models to get these results. Out of the top 10 cars, the average amount of drivers with a speeding ticket is 16.14%. That’s 40% higher than the national average (9.59%). Another fun fact provided by J.D. Power is that the average cost of a new car in July 2021 was $41,044. All of the vehicles on the list happen to be under that average cost. Five of the vehicles in Insurify’s top 10 happen to be sports cars.
In the last three years that Insurify has been doing this survey, Subaru has been the automaker with the most models in the top 10. However, the Subaru’s listed are also some of the safest on the market, with four-star or five-star safety ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The 2021 Subaru WRX received the Top Safety Pick from the IIHS, too.
The irony of the situation
The Subaru WRX had 49% more speeding tickets than average. That’s honestly impressive at this point, almost like WRX drivers are trying.

The irony of the Subaru WRX as the vehicle with the most speeding tickets out of almost 400 options also happens to be one of the safest. So buyers of the WRX want a safe car that can be driven at unsafe speeds. That sounds about right.
