Update: Layoffs at Stellantis on March 22nd are confirmed. It looks like 400 engineering, software, and tech roles have been affected.

Last night, a screenshot of a notice allegedly sent to a Stellantis employee was shared on social media. The notice states that the company is mandating a remote workday for all U.S. staff in Engineering & Technology. Commenters are sure the notice means another Stellantis layoff. You can see the notice embedded below.

The notice reads:

“On Friday, March 22nd, we will be holding important operations meetings that require specific attention and participation.

To ensure everyone can effectively participate, we have decided to implement a mandatory remote work day for all U.S. Salaried Non-Bargaining Unit (NBU) employees in Engineering & Technology organization.

This means that on Friday, March 22nd

ALL U.S. Eng & Tech NBU EMPLOYEES ARE EXPECTED TO WORK FROM HOME UNLESS OTHERWISE INSTRUCTED BY YOUR MANAGER

Please make the necessary arrangements to ensure you have the tools and resources needed to work remotely.

Your managers will provide further details and instructions as required.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Stellantis has already completed a round of layoffs this year. 539 U.S. temp workers were laid off in January. Stellantis said that this was temporary and due to a lack of demand, InvestorPlace reported.

The rumored March Stellantis layoff comes after staffing ebbs and flows following either the UAW strikes or decisions to cut jobs based on operational decisions. In 2023, over 1,000 U.S. factory jobs were cut as the company ceased Jeep Cherokee production. Stellantis rehired 165 parts factory workers by the end of the year, The Pantagraph said.
