Stellantis Finally Deletes 2 Overdue SUVs
The two smallest SUVs in Stellantis’ US lineup should have been gone a few years ago. The Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X have struggled mightily with low sales figures for the past few years and are finally gone for the 2024 model year. These SUVs filled a need for their respective brands, but their time has finally come to an end.
Different stories from platform mates
The Jeep Renegade arrived in the Jeep lineup after the 2014 New York International Auto Show. This little Jeep was the hit of the show with its rugged, toy-like appearance and off-road capabilities. The ruggedness and Trailhawk trim made the Renegade an instant hit, with more than 368,000 models sold during the first four model years.
For the Fiat 500X, the story was different. This Fiat crossover debuted at the 2015 New York International Auto Show but to a muted reception compared to the Jeep. The best sales year for the 500X was 2016, with sales of 12,599 models. This, despite the Fiat SUV being popular in Europe.
Sales are ice cold for these small crossovers
The Fiat 500X has been Fiat’s only US offering since 2020, but fewer than 500 were solid in 2022, making it hard to keep a dealership network alive. The Renegade hasn’t fared much better, with sales dropping by more than 56% from 2020 to 2022. These numbers have continued to decline, making it easy to see why Stellantis canceled these two models.
Stellantis retools for EVs
Future Stellantis EVs replace the Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade at the Melfi factory production line. This plan, announced in 2021 is already underway. With such low sales figures, nothing is stopping the EV models from taking over the production line in Melfi, Italy.
Does Stellantis still sell these small SUVs in Europe?
Two new Stellantis small SUVs replace the Renegade and 500X. The new Jeep Avenger is the subcompact Jeep crossover, while the Fiat 600 is the Fiat version. Both also have electric versions, which gives European shoppers some options.
In the United States, the Jeep Compass is the smallest Jeep SUV available. Fiat turns to a single-model offering in the new all-electric 500e.
