Aussie business owner goes viral for installing automatic sprinklers to deter cars from parking in his driveway
Bruce Kerr, an IT business in Queensland, Australia, has a driveway for his business that’s regularly used by shoppers as a free parking spot. Despite adding several signs on the fence bordering his driveway, Kerr sees more and more drivers brazenly parking in his spot.
The issue is this: drivers park in front of the gate securing Bruce’s car. When the gate is blocked, he can’t leave, and neither can his employees.
He tried being nice by asking people politely not to park there. He’s tried adding more signs, only to watch them ignore it on his motion-activate security system. He’s also called the police, but nothing changed.
“Nothing seemed to work, so that’s when we decided to add the water system,” Kerr told A Current Affair. “There’s a perfectly good car park on the next block, and they put themselves in a situation where they have to reverse out onto a busy street.”
Then it struck him: the best way to get a driver’s attention is to make them uncomfortable. A plastic pipe hooked up to his water line with holes poked in it powered by a switch he installed in his office sprays offenders with water as they climb out of their wrongfully parked cars.
The driveway footage is incredibly hilarious
“Block the gate, meet your fate,” he said. “If you park there, you get a flood of irrigation in your face… We simply flip a switch, we don’t even have to leave our desks.”
Kerr has all kinds of footage using the sprinkler system to enact petty revenge. He’s used it on people who throw trash onto his property, or on those who park in his private lot if the gate is left open.
“Maybe the gate is accidentally locked and then they wander up and down the block trying to figure out how to get their car back,” he said. “When they do, they’re often very inclined to flip us the bird.”

He has plans to reinforce his security system
After some drivers reacted to being sprayed by trying to destroy his sprinkler system, he announced plans to combat that.
“It’s now being reinforced with galvanized steel,” he said. “We’re making it bulletproof.”
He’s also looking into increasing the water pressure, too.
“Right now it’s about 35 to 37 psi, but we’re going to upgrade it to around 50,” he said. “Yeah, it’s going to hit.”
