If you’re interested in buying a Honda SUV, you might have some questions about the lineup. One common question is about the size of the SUVs. Which of the Honda models is smaller than all the rest? Out of the Passport, Pilot, CR-V, and HR-V, one is much more compact than the rest. What is the smallest Honda SUV? Check out the 2022 Honda HR-V.

For the current model year, the 2022 Honda HR-V is the smallest SUV in the automaker’s lineup. It’s considered a subcompact SUV, competing with many popular models in the segment. It’s comparable to other models in its class, like the Subaru Crosstrek, Mazda CX-30, and the new Toyota Corolla Cross. However, how does the HR-V compare to the other Honda SUVs? The next smallest model in the automaker’s lineup is the CR-V.

According to Car and Driver, the CR-V measures 182.1 inches long and 73-inches wide without mirrors. Comparatively, the HR-V is 179.8-inches long and 72.4-inches wide. While the two models aren’t too far off from one another on exterior dimensions, the interior passenger space is a little different. With the CR-V, leg and headroom are much more expansive for rear passengers.

Honda HR-V: The cheapest Honda SUV

Not only is the HR-V the smallest SUV in Honda’s lineup, but it’s also the most affordable. Look no further if you’re in the market for an SUV that’s cheaper than the rest. Surprisingly, the HR-V beats the CR-V in front head and leg room (as noted above), which means if you don’t have rear passengers often, the cheaper option is actually more spacious. Of course, that space is made up for in the CR-V’s rear seats and cargo area.

How much does a 2022 Honda HR-V cost? There are four trim levels, but according to C/D, the base model LX starts at $23,115. However, the entire lineup remains reasonably priced, even with the fully-loaded EX-L model. Buying a range-topping version of the HR-V still only starts at $27,915. Keeping a whole lineup of vehicles below $30,000 is rare, especially in 2022.

Is the Honda HR-V worth buying?

In conclusion, the smallest Honda SUV is the 2022 Honda HR-V. Moreover, it’s also an excellent model that’s worth buying. C/D recommends buying the EX trim level. It isn’t too much more costly than the LX or Sport models but adds many standard features like heated front seats, a sunroof, and driver assists.

However, it’s difficult to suggest any model over the others, and think it’s primarily based on pricing. Honda’s range of HR-Vs only varies by about $5,000, so find the best model for the price you want to pay. It’s worth noting that a similarly-equipped Honda CR-V is much more expensive. C/D recommends the EX Hybrid CR-V, which starts at $33,255.
