Jason Maxwell owns DreamWraps, a custom vinyl car-wrapping shop in Newport, Kentucky. Just across the Ohio River from downtown Cincinnati, Jason was approached in 2022 by producers of the recently retitled “Alto Knights” film, a 1950s gangster movie starring Robert De Niro.

The crew was shooting the film in Cincinnati and needed some prop work done. The request was an extra-challenging opportunity: to wrap a group of classic cars to make their exteriors look nearly new. The added obstacle was the timeline. Jason and his team were only given six days to complete the project.

Vinyl wraps are an alternative to full paintwork, which can be costly, labor-intensive, and impossible to reverse. The wrapping can be removed or replaced at any point without damaging the original paint.

In an interview in December 2022, Jason said he was given less than a week to wrap two vintage trucks, a set of police cars, and other vehicles from the ’50s. The batch included a Chevrolet 3100 pickup. He quickly granted the request and completed the order in a tireless team effort. The vinyl wrapping made the classic cars look like they might have originally appeared some seventy years ago.

According to the DreamWraps pricing page, full wraps can run anywhere from $3,000-$6,000, depending on the vehicle size. We hope he was able to collect an expedited service fee.

‘Alto Knights’ release announced for November 15th

Originally titled “The Wise Guys,” “Alto Knights” features De Niro playing a dual role. Two Italian-American mob bosses, Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, compete for territory until Genovese orders a failed hit on Costello. The cast includes Debra Messing, Katherine Narducci, James Ciccone, and Matt Servito. It was shot in Cincinnati, Ohio, in December 2022. The release date, November 15, 2024, was just announced after a delay due to the writers’ and actors’ strike last year.
