Following its official reveal last month in Milan, the 2025 Volvo EX30 had a “small” reveal in New York this week. The EX30 is an all-electric small SUV that offers buyers a premium package with Tesla-fighting specs. One of the best parts is its small price, too. Let’s take a closer look at Volvo’s newest EV SUV.

The 2025 Volvo EX30 is priced well within the segment

Getting down to the nitty gritty, the 2025 Volvo EX30 is now available for reservations in the North American market. Prospective buyers of the Volvo EV SUV can plunk down 500 of their hard-earned dollars to claim their EX30 when it arrives in dealerships next year. That deposit will go toward the EX30’s overall cost, which starts at $34,950 (excluding the $1,195 shipping charge).

This price is a huge deal considering the Tesla Model 3 starts at around $40,000 (sans incentives), and cheaper EVs like the Nissan Leaf start at $28,140. That puts the Volvo EX30 well within striking distance of premium buyers looking to get into the electric vehicle realm without having to spend over $40,000 for one.

The Volvo EX30 has two different powertrains to offer

The Volvo EX30 EV will offer two different powertrains when it arrives. The first setup is a Single-Motor Extended-Range rear-drive option that allows the car to go up to an estimated 275 miles between charges. The second option is a Twin Motor Performance variant that mates the 64-kWh battery with an additional motor between the front axles for an AWD setup.

This up-level powertrain provides 422 hp, which can zip the car up to 60 mph from a standstill in only 3.4 seconds – making it the quickest car in Volvo’s lineup. As for charging times, Volvo says it should take around 26 mins to charge the EX30 from 10% to 80% with a DC fast charger.

The EX30 has a stylish and sustainable interior

The Volvo EX30’s interior has a futuristic vibe without looking like it came out of a sci-fi novel. Thanks to Tesla, everyone should be used to seeing a barren dashboard with a large infotainment screen protruding from the center of it – so there’s nothing new here. The EX30 has a simple dashboard layout with a large 12.3-inch screen front and center.

The system will offer Google Assistant voice command ability, Google Maps navigation, and support for Google Apps and Apple CarPlay. Some pertinent information, like the vehicle’s speed and charge levels, will be displayed on the screen, and the audio sounds will play from the available Bowers and Wilkins audio system.

Aside from the infotainment system, there are other innovative features to be found around the EX30’s cabin. A floating center console with multiple cupholders and storage options sits between the front seats, and there are other storage cubbies and spaces as well.

The most innovative part of the EX30’s interior design is the recycled materials used for the seats. During the reveal we attended in New York, Volvo set up different “rooms” to showcase the different environments buyers can have in their EX30s. One interior features a renewable fiber sourced from linseed plants, while another has seats made of recycled denim scraps.

The other interior options include a wool blend with 70% recycled polyester, while another will offer a knit material derived from recycled plastics. In case you couldn’t tell, Volvo was keen on the EX30 having a small carbon footprint during its design process.

The EX30’s aesthetics are simple but eccentric

The exterior of the EX30 looks unique but still Volvo-esque. The most telling feature is the Thor’s Hammer LED headlights up front, which match well with the car’s shield-like face. Out back, Volvo incorporated sharp lines and a boxy rear end with its signature spelled-out “Volvo” logo to complete the look. The rest of the EX30 has a sleek look with straight body lines and bold wheel arches. The EX30 will also come in five different colors – including Moss Yellow and Cloud Blue, which is the color you see in these images.

When will the 2025 Volvo EX30 EV arrive?

Volvo didn’t have a specific release date for the 2025 EX30, but buyers will be able to configure the Volvo EV SUV starting the Fall of this year, and deliveries should show in the Summer of 2024. Either way, we look forward to spending some seat time behind the wheel of this all-new electric car. It’s a huge step for Volvo in such a small and attractive package.
