Repeat drunk driver busted for driving nearly a mile with bicyclist stuck to his Nissan Altima’s windshield
It’s almost like something you would expect from the Grand Theft Auto game franchise. A habitually negligent Nissan Altima driver hits a bicyclist on an e-bike.
If that wasn’t enough, the Florida man struck the bicycle-riding single mom and kept right on driving– with her still on the windshield. Tragically, the victim didn’t survive the disaster.
The Nissan Altima driver struck the single mom and drove at least 8 blocks with the bicyclist still on the windshield
22-year-old Xavier Omar Rigby was out for a drive in his 2021 Nissan Altima on the streets of Gulfport, Florida, near Tampa. Trouble is, Rigby was well over the legal limit and driving drunk. Worse yet, he has a history of doing so.
Unfortunately, this particular instance ended with a dead 38-year-old single mom. The Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident. According to the MAIT’s investigation so far, Rigby was driving the Nissan Altima when he struck Kjersten Aileen-Hermance Strang as she rode in the curb lane.
But Rigby didn’t stop. He reportedly drove eight blocks with the victim on the windshield of the Altima before she slipped off. Worse yet, investigators said “Rigby left the scene without calling 911 or waiting for police & fire rescue.” That’s right, he hit her, drove with her still on top of the car, and left the scene after she slid off the windshield.
Emergency medical personnel pronounced Stang dead on the scene. Rigby, on the other hand, didn’t make it very far. He was at a liquor store in nearby St. Petersburg when police caught up with him. He refused to take a field sobriety test and was subsequently arrested.
The police charged him with Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Death, Vehicular Homicide Leaving the Scene, and DUI Manslaughter, per the PCSO arrest report. But this wasn’t the first time Rigby had done something so negligent.
Last year, Rigby was busted by the authorities for driving the wrong way down public streets while inebriated. However, that instance was downgraded to a reckless driving charge. But he didn’t kill an innocent person that time.
