Reliability is one of the calling cards of the Lexus brand. Since the brand was introduced, Lexus has offered an alternative to European luxury vehicles with the quality and reliability that Toyota is famous for. There’s one reliable Lexus, in particular, that’s extremely popular. It’s so popular that you can probably guess which one we’re discussing.

This reliable Lexus is super popular

The perennially-popular Lexus RX is America’s best-selling luxury vehicle. This is confirmed by data on GoodCarBadCar, which shows that it’s sold 44,897 units so far in 2023, outselling popular mainstream SUVs like the Honda Pilot and Kia Telluride.

The RX has always been popular, but its sales numbers keep growing. Lexus RX sales have increased by almost 6% compared to last year’s period.

To recap, the Lexus RX is a midsize two-row luxury SUV that’s been around since the late ’90s when luxury SUVs were still novel. It quickly grew a reputation for comfortable, car-like driving dynamics, excellent overall quality, and rock-solid reliability. Now in its fifth generation, the RX continues with the virtues that made it famous while offering the latest technology.

The proven reliability of the Lexus RX

A recent study by J.D. Power shows one of the big reasons why the Lexus RX is so popular. In its annual U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study, J.D. Power found that the RX was tied with the Toyota C-HR as the most reliable vehicle in the study. Both SUVs scored 111 PP100 (problems per 100), which beats the industry average of 186 PP100.

The Lexus brand also earned the highest reliability rating of any brand in the study. As a brand, Lexus scored 133 PP100, which beats its luxury rivals like Cadillac (173 PP100), BMW (184 PP100), and Acura (211 PP100). So, the Lexus RX is the most reliable vehicle in the most reliable brand on the market.

Since luxury vehicles aren’t typically known for outstanding reliability or low ownership costs, this is a big feather in the cap of the Lexus RX.

Is the reliable Lexus RX right for me?

The Lexus RX is a very easy luxury SUV to recommend. This well-rounded midsize SUV is just the right size for a wide range of drivers, assuming you don’t need three-row seating. It has a spacious and luxurious interior full of modern tech, like wireless Apple CarPlay, an available 14-inch touchscreen display, and the latest driver assistance features from the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 safety tech suite.

The Lexus RX also has multiple hybrid variants available. The Lexus 350h gets an impressive combined fuel economy rating of 36 mpg. The sportier Lexus 500h boasts 366 horsepower, the DIRECT4 AWD system, and dynamic rear steering while still returning a respectable 27 mpg.

Quite simply, you can’t go wrong with the Lexus RX. It’s safe, reliable, efficient, luxurious, and even fun to drive when optioned right. It’s not hard to see why this reliable Lexus is the best-selling luxury vehicle in America.
