To be quick or to drive far is a tough decision. Modern EV shoppers face this tough choice with many vehicles. Should they choose the fast trim or the one with the most driving range? The new 2024 Genesis GV60 brings this same dilemma to the market, giving consumers an impressive luxury electric SUV with three powertrain options.

What are the 2024 Genesis GV60 powertrain options?

Genesis adds a new GV60 version to the market for 2024 called Standard. This model uses a single-motor, RWD layout to produce 225 horsepower. This model isn’t quick, taking nearly 6.5 seconds to reach 60 mph, but it provides the longest driving range with 294 miles of driving on a single charge.

Moving up to the middle powertrain brings the GV60 Advanced. This electric luxury SUV has a dual-motor AWD layout, increasing power to 314 horsepower. The sprint time drops to 5.1 seconds, but the driving range rests between 248 and 264 miles, depending on the wheel size chosen.

Finally, the most powerful GV60 is the Performance trim. This model delivers 429 horsepower to all four wheels and rockets to 60 mph in only 3.7 seconds. At this trim, drivers enjoy the Boost button that increases power to 483 horsepower for a ten-second burst of power. This most powerful GV60 has the shortest driving range of only 235 miles.

Should you choose speed and power, or driving range for this electric Genesis SUV?

The 2024 Genesis GV60 has an 800-volt charging architecture, which allows charging speeds up to 235 kW. This means the 77.4 kWh battery can charge from 10-80% in only 18 minutes. While this sounds impressive, a bit of simple math provides more information.

Consider the 80% charging factor and the remaining 10% of the battery charge when connecting to a DC fast charging station. That means 30% of the quoted driving range isn’t useable, which means the actual driving range of each model is:

  • GV60 Standard – 206 miles
  • GV60 Advanced – 185 miles
  • GV60 Performance – 165 miles

Suppose you expect this electric luxury SUV to be practical and useful during your weekend road trips to the lake. In that case, when you want to travel across the country, or when you need to drive all day during your shopping excursions, the longest driving range makes the most sense.

In fact, many drivers might need more than 165 miles of driving range to simply complete their daily commute.

Which GV60 trim should sell the best?

Adding the new base Standard trim to the 2024 Genesis GV60 lineup could boost this luxury electric SUV sales. This base trim is the most practical in terms of driving range. This could convince many shoppers to drive the base model and not the more powerful AWD versions of this Genesis SUV.
