Paul McCartney is undoubtedly the most famous person in his family, but his wife, Nancy Shevell, didn’t emerge from total obscurity. One of the biggest names in music, Paul McCartney seldom needs an introduction. The Beatles and Wings legend has a name that resonates around the world. Despite approaching 80 years of age, McCartney still puts on a raucous show, and his love life made headlines for 60 years. His current wife, 62-year-old Nancy Shevell, reportedly met the English singer-songwriter in 2007 after a concert.

Despite the 17-year age difference, the chemistry was there.

According to McCartney, he was winding down with his bandmates and crew after a concert. And out of the corner of his eye, he saw Shevell. Her beauty and charm immediately enticed him. He wrote about it in his book, The Lyrics, recounted by the Daily Mail

“After a show, when the band and crew get together for a drink, we’re always the first ones on the dancefloor. Certain songs will just get you dancing,” the legendary rocker told wrote.

“The piano was sitting in the foyer all day long, and because the rain would not stop … I was thinking all sorts of loving thoughts towards Nancy, and while I was at the piano, I could see that the waiters who were clearing up were listening. But it was nice and romantic; it was a perfect moment.”

Soon, the pair grew close. But it took McCartney some time to finally make their relationship official. According to the rocker, they were already living together when he asked her to marry him. She said yes.

They’ve been together for more than a decade, and though few could outshine someone with McCartney’s fame and stature, Shevell is no stranger to the lifestyles of the rich and famous.

Who is Nancy Shevell?

Shevell, whose second cousin and mentor is famed journalist Barbara Walters, is the daughter of a wealthy American trucking magnate, Myron “Mike” Shevell. Growing up, Nancy saw the New Jersey shipping industry firsthand. According to one of the few interviews Shevell has given, she loved to play with trucks in her free time.

“I used to line them up in my room, right next to my Barbies,” she told the Newark-based Star-Ledger, per Observer. “While other kids would go feed ducks at the park, we would go to my father’s truck terminals, to places like Pennsauken, every single weekend.”

However, while trucks were the family business, the family’s alleged ties to other industries showed something else afoot. Shevell’s family was charged with partnering with crime syndicates on multiple occasions. But despite the family’s legal troubles, Nancy Shevell became a savvy businessperson.

She was in her twenties when she began working for the family business and gained a reputation as a fiercely competent businessperson in a predominantly male industry. She was previously married to a New York lawyer, with whom she had a son.

What is Nancy Shevell doing now?

Today, Nancy Shevell’s net worth is an estimated $200 million. Her father, Myron, died at the beginning of 2022, two years after his initial company went under. Nancy, a former board member of New York City’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority, remains involved in the family business while McCartney tours. The Shevell Group, a transportation conglomerate, owns several companies.

Nancy Shevell and Paul McCartney found each other later in life. Despite such different backgrounds, they appear happy together 15 years after meeting. McCartney regularly professes his love for his third wife on Instagram, and Shevell remains content living out of the spotlight. Though McCartney has the more famous name in the household, Shevell still has a fascinating backstory.
